In the middle of the dark sky the moon was shining in it's full glory.
The fort was also radiating under its dazzling light.
The chilly breeze touched Chitra's soft cheeks as she made her bed for the night.
Though for the other residents of the Rakhel Khana, the night was still young but Chitra decided to end her day.
The cold winds at night and the bright hues of sun at day times were her only source of staying sane among those ladies.
She was neither interested in their talks nor the table games they play for entertainment.
Others mock her for her aloof behaviour but Chitra never paid them any heed.
Her Kanahaji was her only companion and she was more than grateful for his company.
Chitra was about to lay down when the metallic door of the hall boomed open.
She didn't show much interest in the intruder as now she understood the routine.
Every single night Zahoor barged in the hall to choose his partner for the night.
At first she felt disgusted with the happening but later adopted ignorance up till Zahoor decided to stay away from her ways.
But this time around it was an unfamiliar loud voice that grabbed Chitra's attention.
"Shabnam." The unknown called for the chief of Rakhel Khana at the top of his voice.
A bottle of liquor was dancing in his hand.
"Huzur aap yaha..." Shabnam asked bewildered as she looked around in a tensed manner.
Chitra like a spectator was witnessing the whole scene.
Curiousity got the best out of her that she even forgot to cover her face with her veil like other times.
"I want someone new... Someone young... Someone who could satisfy..." Farooq, Zahoor's cousin who arrived back to Baghdad after completing a mission, stopped in mid when his eyes collided with Chitrangada's.
Chitra instantly averted her gaze and fidgeted with her red veil while trying to cover her face.
"SHE." Farooq announced.
The sight of other day when he had watch Chitrangada through the white curtains changing her attire started replaying in his mind.
His eyes turned hooded with the lust.
"Come here." He commanded but Chitra kept standing at her place intact.
The unresponsive behaviour of her made Farooq agitated.
Now the liquor was playing with his mind. He even forgot the rule of Harem that was written in bold on the entry gate of Rakhel Khana.
"Entry of any other man inside except Badshah is strictly prohibited..."
"Huzur please go away. Badshaah won't like you visiting here." Shabnam tried to put some sense in Farooq's mind as he sauntered towards Chitrangada.
She knew Zahoor was very particular with the rules and regulations. He won't hesitate once before punishing Farooq for entering in his Harem.
"Huzur..." Shabnam attempted again only to get pushed by the drunkard.
Fearful emotions started appearing on Chitra's face.
She tried moving backward but her way was hindered by her bed.
By now, Farooq had sauntered the distance between them.
He was standing just a few meters away from Chitrangada's figure.
His stinky breath made her gagged.
"Apne chahre se yeh parda toh hatayein... Hame apke husann ka deedar karna hai." Farooq whispered in Chitra's ear above the veil.
She raised her bangles cladded hands to push him away but he proved more powerful in front of her futile attempts.
"Be a good girl and listen to me otherwise I have other options too." Farooq said holding Chitra's wrist in his tight grip.
"Hame dard ho raha hain." Chitra sobbed when Farooq tightened his grasp which resulted in breaking some of her glass bangles.
Using his other hand Farooq held the hem of her veil and was about to lift it when someone grabbed his neck from back.
"Move away from her this instant Farooq." Zahoor ordered. His voice laced with anger.
"Bhai Jaan." Farooq tried to explain but one glare from the Badshah shup him up.
"Guards take him away and lock him in a room untill my next orders." Zahoor commanded and the next seconds two guards dragged Farooq out from the place.
Chitra was shivering... Her body was trembling partly because of the cold winds and partly from fear.
Her mind stopped working. She stood rooted to her place untill a touch on her hand brought her back to reality.
She looked as Zahoor assessed her wound.
Blood was dripping from her wrist. She hissed in pain when his rough fingers made contact with her bruised skin.
"Shabnam." Zahoor called in his authoritative tone.
Appearing unlike from her regular self and shivering from fear, the Chief instantly moved towards the King.
"Ji... Huzurr.." She stammered under Zahoor's piercing gaze.
"Treat her wound and make sure she sleeps well even if it requires you guarding her the whole night." Shabnam nodded.
Zahoor left the Rakhel Khana a few seconds later and instructed two guards to beaware from any intruder before moving to his own chamber.
