JOLIE
This yoga class seemed to go from beginners to expert level out of nowhere and I was in awe at the other participants and their ability to keep up with the moves. I was all for some special breathing techniques and working on my inner and outer balance, but Jesus you wanted me to balance while my leg was up where?
The guy next to me gave me a friendly smile and put his feet back on the ground, “You want some help with this one?”
“I think I’ve got it,” I answered, hardly convinced in my own response as I was getting ready to topple over once again.
“Alright, I’ve done this class a few times now. Brea is great, but she gets caught up in the moment I think.”
We both laugh and when the rest of the members of the class kind of glare at us, it just makes us laugh a little louder. I cover my mouth in an attempt to stifle it. I didn’t come here to bring attention to myself but I was doing a bad job flying under the radar. After the class is over, I grab one of the towels from the back and wipe down all the sweat pooling from the visible areas, I needed a shower, holy shit.
“Hey, how was your first class after all?” The guy was earlier asked.
“Intense for sure. I thought yoga was going to be, well…”
“Easy?”
“Yeah, I guess you can say that.”
“Like I said, Brea gets way into it. I think she made it her life goal to kill off any rumors that yoga is easy. “
“That explains it. At least I’m prepared for next time.”
“So you’ll be coming back?” He seemed suspicious, “because I’m pretty sure she scares people away.”
“Yeah, I’ll probably be back.”
“I’m Gordy, by the way.” He puts her hand out and after a quick wipe down of my hand on the towel I shake his hand.
“Nice to meet you, Gordy. I’m Jolie. I don’t usually sweat this much.”
“That’s a pretty cool name. Much better than Gordon. Gordy was pretty much my only option and frankly, it isn’t that great.”
“A lot of my friends call me Jo, but I’m kind of embraced Jolie the last couple of years.”
“You should. Embrace and run with it.” Gordy starts to walk away but then turns back to face me, “So hey, I’m heading down to this juice bar place right now. Sounds totally hippie, I know, but they make this strawberry pomegranate juice that is pretty much the best thing ever. Want to join me?”
“That sounds like a pretty cool place, but probably not a good idea. I kind of have a boyfriend. I think. It’s complicated, but I shouldn’t.”
He laughs a little and I tilt my head confused at him. “Not a problem, I’ve got a boyfriend too.”
“Oh! You’re...wow I feel stupid. I made a huge assumption and now I probably seem really full of myself.”
Gordy chuckles, “It’s all good. You’re cute, I’m sure guys are flirting with you all the time, but not me. Just looking for a friend to get some juice with. I’m buying if you say yes. And I don’t know you, so you can totally lay that “kind of” boyfriend complicated thing on me.”
“I doubt you want to hear about all my drama.”
“Oh babe, I’m used to the drama. You should meet my boyfriend Lance, he’s pretty much drama central. But I love him and my default makes me the perfect person to deal with your complicated mess.”
