Walking on, the three found shelter for the night in an abandoned house. While Nobel and Caity slept, Sarah stayed up, telling them she was "keeping watch". But she was staying up to watch Caity. There was something strange about her, her eyes were a vibrant green, and she never got mad, or upset. Sarah watched them sleep. The crickets, and locusts humming , raccoons and opossum ran between the shadows. Sarah wasn't sure letting Caity into their group, was a good idea, but she felt it was the right thing to do.
The sun had only barely been up when Caity woke. Pretending to be asleep, Sarah watched her stand and stretch. After a few moments she sat back down and waited for Nobel to wake up, after he did, he spoke, ' so, are we gonna get a move on?' He asked. Sarah had already pretended to wake up, and she said, ' yea, how much longer?' Nobel reached into his pocket and pulled out the sad looking map.
' not much longer buy the looks of it,' He said, ' maybe two more days of travel.' You said that two days ago, Sarah thought, and stood up, brushing bits of grass and dust off her pants. They headed outside, and even though the sun had just rose, the world was scorching hot, but clouds had gathered in the sky, promising to relieve the land from its soaring temperatures.
The three continued walking, and they soon were out of the town, it's happy little convenience stores, and corner markets were but a memory in their minds. An hour after they left the town, they heard a distant slow, low rumbling, as if there were brass players in the clouds. They all turned in horror, but not from the rumbling, no, the accompaniment for this sound was a creak, and a groan. The kind you hear when you leave a metal toy out all winter, and then you pick it up, and it makes an eerie squeal.
The creature stood, in all its glory, behind them. It was in the perfect position to have pounced on all three of them. Sarah ran, and didn't look back. The only way she knew that her "friends" were following her, was if she could her there foot falls. And she could, along with the pounding the creature did at the earth, propelling its self across the land, slowly gaining on them. But after what seemed like forever, she couldn't hear the creature anymore. A hand grabbed her arm, and she turned, and saw Nobel and Caity standing, looking at the creature. She turned too, looking at it. It's rusted once sleek steel, black as the eyes of her stuffed toys, back at her warm, safe home.
The creature opened it mouth, it's jaw just barely hanging on, and let out a screech. All three of them clasped their ears. The creature bend down, ready to jump on them. She knew she had to run, but she was tired, and she felt she would pass out if she even tried running. Then, a bolt of lightning came down from the sky, striking the creature, in mid air. The force of the bolt sent the "thing" flying aways over, and sent it down into the earth, digging into it. It lay there. Embedded slightly in the dirt, electricity buzzing around it. It's light had gone out. But it's not dead. It's can't die. But it can kill. She thought.
After awhile, she spoke, ' we should be going now,' She looked at her companions, and they had shock and amazement written all over their faces.
' yea, we should,' said Nobel, and they kept going. And going. As the rain came down. Down. Down.
Sorry that was short, but it was good in my opinion..... I don't know about u....
