Among the themes found in Something New Blooms by Kara Carreira, a beautiful moving story that won itself DELVE DEEPER 2021 short story contest.
The story begins in a present setting, nine (9) years after the split up between Acacia Glegg (persona) and Keanu Lucas. She never thought she'd return to her hometown after that awful incident where she caught Keanu cheating with her maid of honour/best friend, Lorraine a couple of weeks before the wedding. If it wasn't for family calls, she wouldn't have set foot in this town where the past still haunts her.
While taking a trip down the memory lane, the last thing Acacia wanted was to bump into her ex-fiancé in the middle of her grocery shopping. Unfortunately, she literally did. And having Keanu accompanied by a lady, whom he introduced as his fiancé tensed up the situation further.
Despite the awkward encounter, Keanu insisted for a meet up. Reluctantly, Acacia accepted the invitation oblivious to the edgy air biting that came from Keanu's fiancé. The meeting was intended to clear up the misunderstanding between them and Lorraine, to mend what was once broken.
That was when things began to unfold. Keanu never cheated. And Acacia never actually moved on. But how can they pick up where they left off with the presence of a new woman in Keanu's life?
Something New Bloom is a short story written by KaraCarreira that packs adequate plot development with a perfect closure. It talks about how two (2) people embrace break ups sensibly as they mature into adulthood. We can observe characters transitioned from reckless individuals making decisions out of emotions, to responsible grownups resolving their issues prudently.
KaraCarreira has a talent for fantasy and historical fiction and has won several Wattpad awards and contests in 2021. Something New Bloom is an untapped story at its finest that deserves a shout out. Kara's attempt to deliver modern romance/chick lit story is indeed impressive.
