Introduction

On March 3rd, 1969, the United States Navy established an elite school for the top one perfect of its pilots. It's purpose was to teach the lost arts of aerial combat and to ensure that the handful of men and women who graduated were the best fighter pilots in the world.

Today, the Navy calls it Fighter Weapons School.

For the most part, Steely Kerner had a normal childhood. At beginning of her life she had a loving mother and father, and her favorite uncle by her side. She loved sports and riding horses. She read books and painted as often as she could.

Throughout her entire childhood she was described as a love able and sunny little girl. As Steely grew older and spent more time with her dad and her uncle she knew that it was her calling to follow in their footsteps.

Steely's dad was Lt. Ron "Slider" Kerner and her uncle was Admiral Tom "Iceman" Kazansky. These two major figures in her life were naval aviators and from the bottom of her heart Steely knew that she was destined to become one too.

At the age of 8 Steely's mom couldn't take the pressure of being a navy wife so she packed up her things and left. That was the last time Steely ever saw her. She was left in the open arms of her father, her uncle Ice was close by as well.

Steely graduated high school then went into the naval academy. Afterwards she immediately applied for Top Gun. She graduated at the top of her class with an immense amount of love and support from her family. Through Top Gun Steely met her best friend who would later become her WSO, Lt. Neil "Omaha" Vikander. The two friends met while in training and were stationed on the same mission leading them to become best friends and later fly together. There was no one in the world that Steely would choose to fly with over Neil, he was her best friend after all.

29 year old Steely Kerner was living the dream she always had for herself. She had friends from all over the world, traveled everywhere for her career, and slowly climbed up the ranks to become one of the best pilots out there.

Steely had everything she could have asked for but soon all of that would change as she was invited back to Top Gun for a mission that provides no comfort.
