We walk to a small cluster of trees away from the fire and people. Caleb clears a spot on the ground with his foot and plops down, making sure there is enough room for me. I sit down beside him and he hands me a beer. Blaez and John sit across from us.

“You told Chad off, it’s about time someone did,” Blaez states, breaking the silence.

“Yeah, he thinks he is ‘the shit’” John says as he places his arm around Blaez’s shoulders.

“That’s true, he deserved everything he got,” Caleb mumbles before leaning towards me and planting a sloppy kiss on my lips.

Caleb pulls away and studies my face. “You’re an amazing kisser, did you know that?” He breathes in my face and I get a whiff of beer up my now. I may like the taste of beer, but I hate the smell of it.

Caleb notices me wrinkling my nose up in disgust. “What, does my breath smell?” He blows air at my face and it takes everything I have not to puke.

“I hate the smell of beer,” I tell him and he just stares at me as if I was from another planet. “What?” I ask.

“How can you like the taste of beer but not the smell?”

“I don’t know, I just don’t?”

“Well that’s stupid, maybe you should just smell it until you are used to it.”

“Yeah, I’ll get right on that,” I roll my eyes and stand up, wiping the dirt from my butt.

“Where are you going?” Caleb asks me once I place the empty beer bottle by the trunk of the tree.

“Home,” I simply state as I walk away.

“Why? Are we not fun enough for you? Need to go run back to Chad and see if he’s okay?”

“No, actually I have to get up early and train a horse tomorrow. Anyways, even if I didn’t have to, I would still leave because you’re just like the rest of guys I know; all you want to do is cause trouble and ruin other people’s lives and I will not be a part of that.” With that, I turn on my heel and walk towards the fire.

Looking around the fire, I see Chad standing with his arm around Alexandra, talking to Kyle. I sigh and make my way towards them. Kyle spots me right away and grins. Chad turns around and briefly makes eye contact with me before turning back towards Kyle and pulling Alexandra closer to him.

“Babe, I knew you would be back for more,” Kyle winks at me as he puts his arm around me.

“Shove it Kyle,” I growl as I push him away.

“Oh you’ll want me eventually, they all do.”

“Yeah, I doubt that,” I huff as I turn my back to him and face an angry looking Chad. “I want to go home.”

“Oh really? Now that I’m finally having fun, YOU want to leave?” I nod as he continues. “Well that sucks because I’m not ready to leave yet.”

“Fine, you stay, I’ll leave. I can find my way back, I have a pretty good sense of direction,” I say as I turn my back to him and start to walk towards the horses.

“Ugh, just wait,” I hear Chad sigh and then whisper something to Alexandra and say bye to Kyle. “Let’s go,” Chad grabs my arm and pulls me toward the horses.

“Stop grabbing me like that, it hurts,” I tell him angrily.

Chad sighs, “Sorry.” I rip my arm away from his vice-like grip and rub the spot he was grabbing.

Chad saddles up the horses sloppily and I take over impatiently. I have to fix both saddles once I noticed Chad put them back on backwards. Sighing to myself, I listen as Chad falls behind me and into Cupid.

“Alright,” I sigh frustrated. “Let’s go home.”

“Okay,” Chad hiccups as he clumsily gets on Cupid and reaches to grab the reins but I quickly grab them from his reach.

“You sir, are drunk,” I state as I get on Dancer. “There is no way that I am letting you take the reins.”

“I am not drunk!” Chad gasps at me and I know that just from the statement, he is.

“Whatever, just hold onto the saddle,” I demand as I push Dancer into a walk and lead Cupid behind her.

Close to an hour later, I managed to find our way back to Uncle Marley’s. As we approached the barn, the horses started to pick up their pace and neigh. I smile knowing that I can soon go to sleep in my bed and wake up, ready to train Scar. My stomach does flips as I think about training him and how happy I really am here.

I bring the horses to a stop outside the barn and go to Cupid to help Chad off. Looking around, I notice Chad is already on the ground, standing beside him. I roll my eyes at him before taking Cupid and Dancer’s reins and bringing them into the barn to clean them off. Chad follows behind me like a puppy.

Once I clean both horses and put them in their stalls, I notice it is pitch black outside with only the moon’s light helping you to see. The light outside the house is burnt out, making it harder to see. I stand at the door to the barn looking out into the darkness.

Leaving Chad to fend for himself, I walk out of the barn and into the blackness. Stumbling along the dirt and rock driveway, I almost fall a few times but manage to make it to the porch in one piece. Standing on the porch, I turn and face the blackness, barely seeing the outline of Scar standing in his paddock facing me. I smile to myself as I think about how happy I have become here. Training Scar has brought a new sense of happiness to me.

Sighing, I walk inside and lock the door behind me. Kicking off my boots, I walk off to my room and get ready for bed. I wash my face and pull my hair into a loose ponytail. Changing into my pyjamas, I crawl into bed and shut off my lights. As soon as my head hits my pillow, I fall asleep.

I wake up to the sound of birds chirping and everyone working already. Stretching, I push off my blankets and slide out of bed. I slowly make my way down the hall and into the kitchen. I head straight for the fridge and pull it open. Staring into the fridge, I see a plate of bacon and scrambled eggs. My stomach growls as I grab the plate and throw it in the microwave. Turning towards the opposite counter, I jump.

“Chad, how long have you been there?” I ask him out of breath.

“Shhhh, don’t scream, my head hurts.”
