Chapter 11

SOOOO there is no cliffhanger for this chapter, thought i would be nice (: and im trying out a new story: Angel in Disguise... if you want, check it out.. i will beposting it either today or tomorrow

I gasp for breath as I pull away from Chad and stare at him wide-eyed, unable to comprehend what just happened. My fingers graze my lips where his were previously. So many questions race through my mind at what happened.

“What was that? I don’t understand,” I whisper, still confused and shocked.

“I like you Dylan, I really do, but I don’t want to get hurt. Seeing you at the party kissing Caleb made me jealous, stupid, and it hurt, it really did. While I was getting changed at the hospital, I thought that maybe, just maybe, if I started to act cold and shut you, I wouldn’t get hurt,” Chad explains to me as he leans his head back on the seat and shuts his eyes.

“Oh,” I whisper, not knowing what to say.

“Oh? That’s all you can say?”

“I’m sorry, I just don’t know what to say,” I shrug, staring down at my hands, feeling my cheeks burning red.

“Okay, well just tell me one thing; do you possibly feel the same way towards me or do you think you could?”

“I, I, I just don’t know,” I stutter, trying to clear the thoughts from my head.

“Okay,” Chad replies before turning the truck back on and heading back to the ranch.

The whole ride back the air is thick with electricity and no one says anything. We are both silent, thoughts piling up in my head. My head spins as everything races through my mind, never leaving me with a clear head. Every few minutes I would play back the kiss in my head and remember the way that Chad’s lips felt pressed against mine. When I replay the kiss, more questions would pile up in my head and make it hurt.

“Dylan, Dylan wake up,” I hear Chad whisper but I just ignore him, leaving my eyes shut and head resting against the window. He sighs and I listen as he gets out of his truck and walks around to my door.

Before I know it, I am being lifted up in a pair of strong arms, already knowing it is Chad. He kicks open the door to the house and brings me in. I lie there in his arms as he carries me to my room and lays me down on my bed. Chad takes off my boots and slips the covers over my body.

“Sweet dreams Dylan,” he whispers in my ear before kissing my forehead. I listen as he stops at my door, looking at me, before shutting off the light, closing the door, and walking away.

My stomach drops as I think about how he is walking away instead of staying with me. I can’t help but feel a ping of sadness as I replay the kiss repeatedly in my head, knowing that I won’t get another one like it. The feel of his smooth, pink lips, against mine, moving together in sync. The way his rough, calloused hands cupped my head and pulled me closer, deepening the kiss. Everything about the kiss made me want to do it over again but I knew it couldn’t happen. The kiss is the last thing I think about before falling into a peaceful sleep.

Yawning, I stretch and am amazed by how good I feel. It is amazing how many good sleeps I have been getting here compared to everywhere else. Everywhere else I have been, I got little to no sleep. I never once had a good, comfortable bed, I never liked where I was staying, and I never felt the need to listen and go to bed when I was told. Here, I go to bed whenever I feel like it, but I have at least 8 hours of sleep, I sleep in a beyond comfortable bed, and I like it here, on the ranch.

I push the covers back, off my body, and slide my feet out of bed. Placing my feet firmly on the ground, I push myself stand up. Stretching some more, I eventually make my way to my door and down the hall, where I see Uncle Marley watching TV in the living room. Smiling, I laugh as he starts to yell at the football game that he taped yesterday afternoon.
