SPRUHA MEHLIR: #7
I'm now sitting in the conference room. It was 11:20 am. The production house members were supposed to be here by 11:30 am. I came here at 9:36. It had been two hours. Let us rewind. I stood near the reception on the 25th floor as requested. I texted Rocky.
You: Details on Vidyut Nehra. A pharmacologist.
That was vague, but it would be sufficient for Rocky to gain more deets. It's going to be hard with such little information. But he needs to work hard to gain back my trust and he knows that very well. After 8 minutes, I saw Leah coming into this floor with a burst of energy. I saw a halo around her head and I wondered what made her feel content all of a sudden. She ran to me. She left out a breath of air and smiled at me. I smiled back.
"Maybe you are our lucky charm." She blurted out. There was this twinkle in her eyes.
"Eh? What?" I practically yelled.
"These people have declined our deal and cancelled a new gaming project because of the article you wrote about Ron," her voice was shallow at that part," but somehow we got a second chance. And I know Ron gives his best. He updated the strategy this time."
She spoke this all the while dialling a mobile number on the landline telephone. She crossed her fingers taking deep breaths while she had the receiver against her ear.
"Hello, this is Leah Jones from Rogun gaming company." I kept listening to her conversation.
"Yeah, I'm Mr Leathers' assistant. I wanted to know if Mr Yado Tadashi can stay for a meeting from 11:30 to 1:00 pm. We can also arrange for lunch if possible so that he can catch the flight on time."
She was tense. I selfishly hoped that they would decline this offer. That's the sole purpose of writing and publishing an article about Ron. If their deal gets done... "Yes, thank you so much! We'll be waiting." I'm doomed. My dreams would get shattered into dust.
"Woo. Yeah! We did it!" Oh no, this shouldn't have happened. I wanted them to get out of this country.
"Okay, let's take this as your day one. You're going to learn a lot of things today, Spruha."
She was jumping with glee, clapping her hands with twinkling eyes. A part of me just forgot that they're my rivals. I smiled back at her.
"Okay, we should hurry up. First, go to the 27th floor and inform Ron to prepare the agenda of the meeting and mail it to me. Then ask him to text me when it's done. After that, you need to get 12 copies of it and place them in these folders." She took out a few transparent files and placed them on the table before me.
"Distribute them to the team heads. There are 7 of them." She pointed to her left towards the staff members. Steel boards were attached to their cabin side walls with their positions imprinted. I nodded. "Once you're done with it, meet me in the conference room on the 26th floor."
"Oh, goodness. Alec's on his date. I need to call him back and..." She muttered a few more things to herself and left this floor.
No wonder she's working with two top-class working men. She has so much spirit in herself that makes me wonder if she was ever out of battery.
I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and just thought. What am I even doing here? I wanted one thing and I'm working for the exact opposite thing.
I climbed the stairway to the 27th floor. The entire floor had only three cabins which I assumed must be Ron's, Alec's and Leah's. I knocked on the glass door to Ron's cabin. There weren't any blinds currently so I could see him from outside. He was deeply engrossed in typing something onto his laptop from the desktop pc. He looked like a hardworking man. For a moment I felt like I had wrongly judged his character as a spoiled brat. Well, but... he didn't give me a reason not to. I can't erase the picture of Anna and Ron kissing. That happened right in front of me. I wondered if Rebecca Thomas had heard of this. Wasn't this like cheating on her?
