Over the hill

Just as I was about to go to sleep I turned my head to the left to see something that hadn't been there before, and it seemed to just be... standing there. When I saw it I couldn't move, immediately frozen to where I was. Could it see me? what is it? It was nearly a hundred yards away so I couldn't get a good look at it or tell anything about it, the only thing I could say for certain is that it didn't look right.

That was when I saw it starting to walk towards me I still couldn't move just watching as it approached me slowly but taking long strides. It moved in an unnatural way as if it was limping very heavily, taking a quick step with one leg and a slow with the other. More almost looking like it was using it's legs to drag it's body more than walking. It was clear now that it had it's eyes on me, if you could call the deep dark pits of nothingness on it's face eyes. it was less than 50 yards away now and I could make out more.

20 yards. The thing was at least nine feet tall with large claws hanging from it's gangrenous, elongated limbs. I finally was able to see why it walked the way it did, it's legs were at least a four inches different in size. It didn't have a nose, instead there was just two slits in it's face where they should be. I could see it had large jagged yellow teeth which were unable to be hidden by it's shriveled and decayed lips. It did not stop it's advance and I still could hardly move, mustering up just enough courage to put my hand into my pocket and grab onto the gun.

Once it was within ten yards I could smell the stench of rot and decay coming from it. I could see it's skin pulled tightly over it's bones with the occasional blotches of matted white tufts of fur. Some parts of it's skin had the bones even sticking through it while others were stretched so thin it was translucent and you could see some light through it.

Five yards. The stench only got more pungent the closer and closer it got, but now I could hear it's breathing. Heavily labored and worn out as if it's nostrils were unable to supply all of the oxygen it needed making a small whistle like noise anytime it exhaled too sharply. It lowered itself down onto all fours and slowed it's approach slightly as I looked deep into it's hollowed out eyes.

As it got closer it turned it's head slightly, I could see it staring deep into my soul as it crept. It's eyes suddenly flashing and fading different colors. green and red, purple and red, yellow and purple, then they were both golden before fading from any color again. Was I dreaming?

It finally stood right over me looking down at me with it's claws mere inches from my face on the ground, but it didn't attack, just staring down at me. that was when I began hearing whispers coming from it's throat in an almost distorted way. All things I'd heard before but it was all wrong. Trying to mimic the voices of those who said it to me. As if it was trying to communicate only saying things I'd heard before. It was mostly gibberish statements thrown together from words said by other people throughout my life.

"Getaway... Fifteen... Promise... You'd do the same... My child... The one you want to see..." There was a few moments of silence as it leaned its face in a little closer and began smelling me. It's putrid breathe being enough to make someone vomit immediately upon smelling it, but faced with everything else there was a hundred other things making my stomach turn.

It stayed close to my face taking a few deep sniffs before picking it's head up once more, speaking the longest sentence that needed no explanation. "Get some rest, then I don't want to see your face around here again." As it said this I fell into a deep sleep right there and then. Feeling extremely drowsy before passing out.

When I went to sleep I was put into a dream like state I was unable to wake up from, quickly I realized I was looking at myself from the perspective of the monster. When I looked at myself there was a kind a dark yellow mist coming off of me, a mix of black and gold. Just before I tried to control it  wondering what it meant it quickly shot it's head up. In the woods a short ways away was another human looking back at the creature.

Despite the woods being pitch black to the naked eye this thing could look into it perfectly and see the man clearly. He was holding a revolver in his hand, but when the monster looked at him he was frozen. Not able to move more than shaking in place as he looked at the being.

In the blink of an eye the being began sprinting at him with incredible speed, making the fifty foot distance in less than a second and grabbing the man by the throat. He dropped the gun from his hand but it was too late for him. The being began choking him out as it carried him deeper into the forest away from me. Just before I was out of sight it looked back at me, then back to the man once more before reaching up and digging it's massive claws into the man's neck pouring blood all over him and the monsters claws. After a second of digging around it ripped his throat out, making him go quickly limp as it let out a loud screech and bit the piece it'd ripped out.

That's when I woke up, sweating and freezing. It was still nighttime but somehow I felt well rested, sitting up I found everything was just as I left it. Until I looked at my hands. My hands had a red stain to them with a heavy smell of iron in the area. I quickly wiped them off in the grass and stood up. I looked around once more, pinching myself to be sure I was awake. Looking down at my hands again the blood was completely gone, from the ground as well but the smell still lingered. I had been completely tired and worn out with all my muscles hurting yesterday, but now I felt good as new. My feet felt fine, same with my back and legs.

Discovering this I picked up my bag, wanting nothing more than to escape this seemingly cursed place but before I could something caught my eye off in the forest. Something seemingly glimmering in a small opening in the forest that had the moon shining down onto it. How I wanted to leave and just continue on my journey but when I thought about going away from it made me feel sick to my stomach. My mind and gut was telling me to run and get as far away from this place as I possibly can but the rest of my body is telling me to go see what it was.

Eventually my body won, so in complete darkness I went into the woods, only focused on the one thing. it was a shock that I didn't trip over any roots while going towards it. But when I reached it how I wish I'd turned away, looking down on the ground laid a silver revolver with a wooden handle. The same one the man had been holding when he was seen by the monster. As if not acting on my own volition I leaned down and picked up the weapon, opening and looking into the full cylinder of 44 magnum ammunition.

I put it within the clothes inside of my bag and put the bag back on. 'what the fuck?' that's when I heard the voice in my head once more. " I don't want to see your face around here again." with that I immediately sprinted from the forest, towards the road. I didn't look back fearing what I might see but just running forward hoping it wouldn't chase me. I don't know what it was, I just hoped the man was enough of a meal for it. Although I wanted to act like it was just a dream, the revolver that was now in my position told a different, much more horrifying story.
