"There he is"
"ALAN, YOU DITCH!"
Alan turned to us with a soft look on his face, slightly making me feel confused, but Robby didn't bother about that as he walked over to his friend with a pretending-to-be-furious scowl and keeping his hands on his hips as he stopped, "What. are. you. doing. here?"
I stood behind Robby, curiously scanning Alan's blank face and the way he was sitting on his seat. He was slightly bending forward, as if he was hiding something under his desk. I bet it was the packet of Doritos! But no, I couldn't confirm that yet. Alan never seemed so serious about such silly stuff.
"Didn't you guys go eat your lunch yet?" he asked simply, ignoring Robby's question. I shook my head, but Robby had a sudden look of realization on his face as he clapped on his forehead "Oh shit, Rose! We kept our half-eaten lunch back there when we took off to catch this guy! And now we won't get both our lunch or the packet of chips this ditch had eaten without us!"
I raised an eyebrow, "But we can always just go back to eat it...? There's a lot more time left."
"Ugh, Rose!" Robby rolled his eyes, "You know, we have something called the 'lunch ladies' there who takes away our lunch if it's left unfinished and open like that and then will be taunting us later for wasting food. When did you start to become this dumb?"
"After befriending you, I guess," I shrugged nonchalantly, "Anyways, Alan, what were you doing here? Eating chips without us?"
He shook his head innocently, "What do you mean? Bringing chips here and eating it without you guys, why would I do that? How can you even assume something so blatant about me, guys? I thought we were frie -"
"Okay okay, stop being so dramatic, dude," Robby said after he calmed down. Pot, meet kettle. "Just tell us why you ditched me for lunch."
"I...had something to write here," Alan stuttered as his face went considerably pale and his eyes turned wide. For a second, I was about to run out the class, thinking he was turning into a vampire. But nope, that was just my unrequited hope of meeting vampires or werewolves.
"Something?" Robby raised his eyebrows, then started to smirk, "Like a love letter? To Samantha?"
At that, I and Robby laughed at each other though it may have been something else serious too, but Alan didn't start groaning like usual. Instead, he gasped and said,
"How did you know?"
We both stopped laughing abruptly. That was unexpected.
We turned our heads slowly towards Alan, who held a serious expression on his face, as well as...a piece of paper in his hands. So he was serious? But we weren't!
"But we were joking?" Robby told Alan with wide eyes, and I nodded agreeably.
"It wasn't a joke for me," Alan replied blankly.
"But you never told us!"
I nodded again.
"It's called a 'crush'. Have you never seen movies or read books, Robby? People don't tell their crush' names even to friends. Especially introverts like me," Alan rolled his eyes.
"But this isn't a book or a movie," Robby said.
I nodded yet again.
Alan sighed, turning to me, "Rose, stop nodding and tell something. Our school is a democracy, you're supposed to express your opinions!"
I nodded.
Alan and Robby groaned, but then they went back to interrogation.Hey, don't blame me, I was just dumbstruck because we were only joking about Alan liking Samantha because it will never happen, since we're friends. But now what? Should we be their wingwoman and wingman, or the third and fourth wheels? Or both? When should we arrange their first date, marriage date, and how many children they should have -
