As I was left in my seat in class - actually, not exactly my seat since I was sitting on Riley's desk and she sat on the bench, watching random people go about their business - someone came and tapped behind me. I snapped out of the thoughts and looked behind to see Robby's evergreen grinning face. I strained back a little smile. I didn't like it when his face dulled down when I wasn't happy, because his grin is one of the funniest grins I've seen. Really.
"Wassup? Sitting unhappily because of the fight?" Robby asked me nonchalantly, probably thinking that it was a usual fight like all others and his usual peppiness was cheering me up. It wasn't, to me. He just doesn't know the impact it left on me because he joined our class only after my friendship with Stella went down. One thing Robby doesn't know is how to cheer up others - yes, he does comfort me with his dumb jokes and cheery attitude when I'm just a little stressed. But at times like these, that wasn't enough. I needed actual comforting, and not just jokes. And that required my other friend, Andy. Only he was able to actually understand me and how I thought, how Rose Bilton had the weirdest, over-imaginative mind ever.
"What do you mean?" I shrugged, "We didn't fight, man. We're friends, it was just the usual play around."
Robby nodded, "Yeah yeah, but your face doesn't show that."
Of course it doesn't, but my face isn't down because of the fight. It's because of... You know what. Well, I'm glad that at least he knew me well and recognized when I was down. I mean, he's supposed to know that, as my best friend.
"Nevermind, Robby," I said with a sigh, "Stella and I weren't fighting. We were just joking around like usual. Anyways -"
Just as I started to change the topic to something else, Robby frowned and pointed to my shirt, "Hey, you got some stain on the front of your shirt."
Oh. So he knew that I and Stella had a fight, but not the reason of the fight. How nice!
I rolled my eyes, "Uh, that's what I and Stella joked around for -," I highlighted the words 'joke around', so that Robby will stop asking me about it, "because I poured my cola on Kadie when she spilt it on me and it accidentally fell on Stella's notebook instead."
Robby pretended to gasp, "What?! Are you people, who are nearly adults, supposed to be spilling drinks around like this? Especially very costly cola drinks! You should be suspended for a week."
He was mimicking what our class teacher would've said if she heard about this. Well, he had a point at the cost thing though, I did waste a good cup of cola. I just blinked at it, not knowing whether to laugh or react some other way. Then I burst out laughing, making Riley frown at my momentary silence and Robby smile in content.
Then he burst out laughing too, either at my reaction or his own joke, "I'm joking, sorry. But shouldn't you change your shirt? What if ma'am sees it and asks? Then there's going to be more trouble."
That's some real good comfort, man, thanks a lot. "I don't have any extra clothes though," I shrugged, "besides, I've only got to last three more classes."
"Isn't that more than enough?" he replied, shaking his head, "Okay, your choice. I would've helped but I don't have an extra cloth either. Maybe ask someone else?"
"Hey!"
We both jumped in surprise when an extremely exhausted Alan ran upto us, panting and grabbing his knees after stopping. I and Robby glanced at each other, blinking, and then back to Alan. He looked up after seeing that we're silent.
"What? I just said hey, why aren't you guys greeting me back?" he asked us with a frown, "You're supposed to be happy after seeing me."
We glanced at each other again, then back to Alan and replied in unison with a stupid smile plastered on our faces, "Hey Alan"
