The next day came quickly, Thomas, Minho and I had stayed up during the night working on plans, weapons and ideas for the maze. My eyes fighting to close as the loud grumble of grievers echoed around the shut off maze.

I sat up, hanging my legs over the edge of my bed. I rubbed my face, gently running my fingers through my hair as I stood up and changed. My muddied jeans and hoodie hanging perfectly across my body, the fabric moving as I strapped my knifes to my back.

Minho had given me some simple fabric gloves for my hands as to prevent burns from the spear we would be carrying as we ran.

I walked out my hut and squinted at the harsh sun that had begun to rise over the furthest wall. Glancing around the glade, I noticed a group of boys huddled at the entrance to the maze so I jogged over.

Standing by the thick concrete doors was Minho and Thomas who were all ready for the run and a few others, Newt, Alby and Gally. I furrowed my eye brows and walked towards them.

"Here she is!" Minho turned to me and smiled, handing me one of the three spears we had crafted last night.

I took it from him and slot it comfortably into my hand, the leather around the handle cushioning the hard wood.

I looked to the others after thanking the young boy. Newt gently slid his hand into my free one and I stepped closer to him, allowing his arm to drape over my shoulder.

"Stay safe for me, ok?" I looked up at him, his bright blue eyes dazed with love as we shared a quick kiss.

"I'll try."

He nodded at me before I walked towards Thomas and Minho. Their faces twisted to disgust at what they just watched.

Then Alby spoke up, "You better be back to take care of the greenie tomorrow."

I looked back at him with dazed and confused eyes, "Huh? Who will run? And it's already been a month since Chuck got here?"

I went to ask even more questions but a loud scraping cut me off. Turning, I watched as the doors to the maze slid open and a loud growl echoed from within the concrete. I took a deep breath and squeezed the spear tighter, my knuckles whitening as I stared at the dark passage.

Minho, Thomas and I shared a glance before nodding. The doors stopped moving with a thunder like bang and we started running. My heart beating even more than normal as I ran, turning the sharp corners and listening to the growls around me, the loud limbs of the grievers smacking the stone as we went.

The minuets quickly turned to hours as we ran. The gentle thud of our feet being devoured by the deafening thud of the grievers. It sounded like they were everywhere, my heart thrashing against my chest as I ran beside the two boys.

Then we reached section 7. My heart dropped. My head banged inside my skull. My eyes started to water but I only kept running.

Minho stopped, his arm stretching out to block me from sprinting past him. I watched as he looked around the corner and quickly turned back to look at us, "Shh." he raised one finger to his lips and nodded at me.

My breathing increased and my eyes became fuzzy as I looked around the corner and there it was. The griever. It wasn't the same one that I had fought off, or the one that Minho and Thomas ran from. It was different.

Its tail flexed above its head, a sharp point glistening in the small amount of sun that shone into the dim halls of the maze. It had slimy points flowing down its hunched back as it trudged across the hallway.

I snapped my head backwards and nodded at Thomas who wore the same expression as me. I took a deep breath and followed Minho as he dashed towards another hallway opposite us. Thomas tightly gripped my free hand as we moved, pushing me in front of him once we were hidden by the wall.

"Do we need to go back?" Thomas whispered, ducking down to get closer to us as we hid, "It's pretty late."

Minho nodded, his hair flopping as his head moved, "Good that."

We all agreed, quickly making our way past the griever again as we sprinted home, the sun slowly setting over the walls as the yells of the griever increased.

As we ran, all these questions started to pop into my head,

Have the grivers reached the glade?

Is Newt safe?

When will they find the glade?

I was only brought back from my thoughts as we turned the corner and Minho and Thomas froze. I dug my heels into the hard stone below us and skidded to a halt. A large beast stood in front of us. My eyes widened and so did its.

The griever came charging towards us and Minho and Thomas dashed to the side. I jumped, my feet leaving the ground as I dove towards the right, watching as the monster ran between the three of us, separating me from the others.

I stood up, moving my spear to block my small body as the griever turned and looked at me, it's shiny black eyes squeezing before it moved.

I raised the spear and clutched it in my shaky hands. The loud crashing came towards me, the banging of metal against stone crashed around the maze. I closed my eyes and waited for the impact.

Feeling a sharp slash into my side as it's tail hit me. I looked down and saw the point, but it wasn't inside me, it was just to the left as the blunt, slimy flesh of the monster smacked into my side and sent me flying to the other side of the corridor.

I could hear more yelling and a loud, booming screech before the stomps of a griever faded and the soft slaps of feet against stone increased

I slowly opened my eyes and looked up at Minho and Thomas who crouched down beside me, resting their hands against my body.

"Has she been stung?" Thomas fiddled with the spear resting gently in my hand.

I huffed and sat up, rubbing my face, "No shank. Just smacked by it's slimy as hell tail. Now can we get back to the glade before the doors shut."

Minho smiled and lifted me up, my arm draping over his shoulders as Thomas and him helped to lift me up, I clutched my side and walked along the thin corridors being slowly watched by the two boys each side of me.
