The next morning, I woke up to the sound of the maze doors opening, the large scrape against the ground echoed around the glade. I rubbed my eyes and looked around to see... the runner hut? I furrowed my eye brows when a tingly sensation hit my lips and the events of the day before came rushing back to me. I spun my head around to see Newt, his back resting on the wall and his arms wrapped gently around my torso, a smile lingering on his features.

A sudden heat slapped my face and a dumb smile spread across me as I fell back into the comfortable pillow that is Newt when his hand moved and began playing with the edges of my hair.

"Morning Love." he spoke with a lower, gravelly morning voice which made my blush deepen.

I rested further back into his chest, "Morning."

He rubbed my arm before scooting to be more comfortable.

"You need to get ready." He smirked and let go of my arm, "Minho's gonna be worried since you ran off yesterday."

I lowered my head and sat up slightly only to be pulled back into a hug, "Don't worry, it's ok."

I nodded and stood up, "So... what does this... mean?" I hesitated and sat back down opposite Newt, bringing my knees to my chest and hugging them.

Newt's head tilted to the right and he smiled, "Do you want to... go out? With me?" his voice went slightly higher as he asked the question, squinting his eyes.

"Yeah. I would love to." I smiled and brought my knees down into a cross legged position.

Our eyes connected and we both smiled before I stood up, taking a step towards him and kissing his gently, my hand under his chin before we separated and smiled.

"I need to go." I stated.

He stood up as well, "Stay safe love."

I walked out of the runner hut, the sun light hitting my eyes and forcing me to squint. I walked out of the forest and scanned the open glade. Some people were already up and moving, I didn't dare to look over to the slammer as I didn't want to repeat the events of last night... well, that part of the night.

I looked around again when my eyes caught Chuck who marched over to me swiftly, his face a worried expression with a strange calmness hanging over it.

"Y/n? Are you ok? You kind of ran off last night." his eyes furrowed.

I smiled, resting one hand on his shoulder, "I'm fine Chucky, don't worry. Just a bit upset, that's all."

He nodded at me with a smile before looking over to the entrance of the maze, my gaze following his as I saw Minho and Thomas stood looking at me at the doors of the maze.

"Alright I need to go Chuck! I'll see you tonight!" I ran off and towards the maze, waving at the other two runners.

They smiled at me as I reached them, "Here she is! You ok?" Minho patted my back and puled me into a side hug.

A huge smile came across my face and I looked down to try and hide it but of course they noticed.

"And I thought she left crying." Thomas smirked.

I looked up into the maze then glanced back into the glade, looking around and seeing Newt who was watching me with a smile at the farms. He waved at me and I waved back before turning around.

"Let's go!" I grabbed Thomas's arm and yanked him into the maze with me as Minho laughed, following behind.

~~~
The three of us had slowed down from a sprint to a jog as we turned another corner of the maze when I stopped, putting my hand out to my right and signalling the others to follow.
I walked to the edge of a wall and peeped around a corner to be met with a giant almost mechanical beast. It had a long slimy body with spikes poking from its back and dangling legs that crunched into the floor. As it walked, a massive thin tail curled up behind it.
It marched towards us but still somehow oblivious to our presence.
"Shit!" I whispered, turning back around and facing the others.
They both furrowed their eye brows when an unmistakable growl came from where I was just looking and echoed around the maze all the way up to the glade.
Minho and Thomas each grabbed one of my hands before we turned and started sprinting. When the louder bangs of the grieves legs slapped the floor as it ran after us.
Thomas and Minho lead the way as I ran slightly behind, turning sharply around a corner and glancing backwards when I caught sight of the griever again. My heart rate climbed in a second and I felt my legs try to run even faster than they were already.
The sound of the griever only became louder as it dashed after us. My hands disconnected with Thomas and Minho's when I looked around again and saw another path that could lead the griever away from the others.
I took a deep breath and ran for it. Darting away from the other two as I heard the griever change direction with me along with the screams of Minho and Thomas who watched me run.
I kept sprinting, knowing the griever was just behind me. Turning sharply around another corner and scanning the new ally I was in when I spotted a large clump of vines just around the next bend. It was just big enough to hide below but small enough to not be noticed.
So I went for it, coming to a sharp stop and climbing below the vines. Listening as the griever came closer.
I held my breath, trying to stay as silent as possible when six massive mechanical legs matched straight past me and slowly faded out to be much quieter. I let the breath I was holding in go and peeked out, the sun setting now.
My eyes widened at the sound of scraping, the walls shifting and moving when I had to tuck back into my hiding spot as a griever came past again.
