With the opening game of the season just around the corner, Maia found herself spending most of her time on the court.

If there was any margin for error, Maia could find herself losing all the progress she made over the past few seasons in the league, especially with Vince as the head coach.

Luckily, Vince had been called away to New York City for some PR business, as he was still acting as the general manager for the time. That meant Maia has a chance to dial into her training, and any worries could be pushed aside for the time being.

Well, most of them at least.

After long days on the court, Maia would find herself with only a couple hours to herself after dinners with Aiden.

Eager to talk to the only man on her mind for the past couple weeks, Maia was often disappointed, seeing that Hasan was still streaming into late hours of the night.

Sure, there was a lot going on in the world at the time, but did their time together completely slip his mind?

Though, Maia did have some reassurance, as Hasan would send occasional text messages to her throughout the day, asking how her day was going or if she was okay.

And with many promises from Hasan to attend her game on Saturday, Maia let her annoyances drift away.

——

"When you pass to the left, you have to face the ball when you cut!" Maia exclaimed to one of her teammates.

It was Saturday afternoon and the Sparks were running through their playbook, putting on the polishing touches for the game that night.

To say that the pressure was high would be an understatement.

"She's right, we have to keep our eyes up on the court!" One of their assistant coaches yelled from the sideline, writing something down on her clipboard.

With Vince gone for at least the next month and a half, their assistant coach was filling in for the time being.

Luckily, the coaching staff hadn't changed when their head coach was fired, so Maia was no longer the most despised player on the court.

"Alright, let's wrap it up here," said one of the other coaches. "Get some rest and be back here in a couple hours, ready for pregame warmups."

——

"Hasan?" Maia exclaimed, adjusting her duffel bag strap on her shoulder.

After changing out of her practice clothes, Maia fully intended on taking the bus home to relax for a couple hours before heading back to the stadium.

Seeing the 6'4 man inspecting the team's history plaques in the lobby was definitely a surprise.

"The Sparks won the title in 2016?" Hasan asked in disbelief, staring at the picture of the team holding up the trophy together.

"Yeah, usually people don't have a fuckin' clue about who win the league most years," Maia said, slightly annoyed. "Welcome to womens basketball!"

There was a couple minutes of awkward silence as Maia followed Hasan towards the entrance of the building, still without a clue of why he was there.

"Hey, I'm sorry about not being around as much." Hasan said as he held the door open for Maia.

"It's fine, really, I've also been pretty busy wi-

"No, no it's not." He stated stopping in his tracks in front of the building, looking Maia dead in the eyes.

"Hasan, you act like we're dating or somethin', it's not that big of a fuckin deal!" Maia exclaimed, obvious annoyance behind her words.

And it wasn't a lie. Though she couldn't ignore the hope in her heart for what they had to be something more.

"I didn't mean it like that! Uh- I mean, unless you like want to date?" Hasan stumbled, messing with his hair.

This was the most flustered she had ever seen him.

"Hasan Piker, are you asking me out?" Maia teased, unable to hold back the smile now plastered on her face.

"If you put it like that then, yeah, sure I guess?" Hasan said, his face turning red. "God, I sound like such a fuckin idiot."

Maia burst out laughing, wrapping her arms around his chest to give him a hug.

"Yes, I would love to go on a date with you," she mumbled.

"Good, because if you said no, I think that would've been the worst moment of my life!"

"Also," Maia said, pulling back from their embrace, "are you kidnapping me, cause I have just followed you to your car for no fuckin reason."

"Oh right," Hasan said, chuckling, "Austin wants us to meet up for lunch before your game, since he flies out tomorrow morning."

"Wait, all of you are coming to the game?"

"Yeah," Hasan said, taking Maia's bag from her and throwing it in the trunk. "Are you coming or what?"

Maia snapped out of her surprised state as Hasan sat staring at her from the drivers seat.

It would definitely be weird having someone other than Aiden and her dad at the game.

Not that she was complaining or anything.
