Maia was having some of the most stressful weeks of her life. On top of workouts and practices with her new team, she was also juggling the pressures of moving across the country.

And Maia was ready for a fucking break.

After a long 3 hour practice, she had taken a long, much needed shower and was now getting ready to hit play on the next episode of The Mandalorian.

Ever since Maia's schedule had become so hectic, the two roommates were struggling to find time to spend with just the two of them.

——

"ITS NOT MY FAULT YOURE SO BUSY!" Aiden exclaimed from the kitchen, popping a pizza into the oven as the credits from episode 7 rolled on the screen. The last time the two watched the show together, they had been on episode 2.

two.

"THEN AT LEAST DONT SPOIL IT FOR ME!" Maia yelled back, upset after she had walked in on the ending of the episode, ruining the plot for her.

——

And she had every damn right to be mad, too.

Though, reflecting on the situation, Maia hadn't really been that upset about it. I mean, it was just a tv show after all.

Plus, it was nice to have the chance to enjoy the show by herself without the constant reactions from Aiden every time there was a flight scene or minor plot twist in the story line.

People hated him in movie theaters.

Hence why Maia waited until Aiden left the house to meet up with Hasan and Austin for lunch, before she plopped down on the couch, ready to play catch up with a mini series marathon.

Just as she was getting comfortable...Maia's phone rang.

Motherfu-

Maia took the benefit of the doubt at first. Maybe it was just Aiden calling to say that he forgot something?

Though, as she lazily draped her arm over the side of the couch to grab her phone, Maia had a feeling it was the one person she never wanted to see a call from.

    Vince.

"Maia," he said, jumping right in without a greeting. "I need to see you in my office in 30 minutes."

Vince was the general manager for the LA Sparks. He dealt with most of the player salaries and contracts, while just so happening to be a complete asshole. It was one of the things her new teammates had warned her about in the first few days. Sure, he was fucking rude to everyone, but Maia had been quick to learn that he had a special hatred for her specifically.

"Come on Vince," she complained. "You know I just got home."

"Home?" He asked, pretending to be confused. "Shouldn't you be on the court right now."

Maia rolled her eyes, walking over to slip her shoes on. "The rookies are the only ones on the fucking court right now, and you know that."

"I'd be watching your language with me Ms. Phillips. I hope you remind yourself that I am the one who offered you that contract..."

Maia widened her eyes at his threat. This guy was really getting on her fucking nerves.

"Fine, I'll be there," she stated before hanging up the phone as a last ditch effort to stop her from saying something stupid.

It was a daily struggle for a Maia to keep reminding herself why she dealt with the bullshit politics of it all.

It was to play the sport she loved.

    To play basketball.
