"MAIA WAIT!"

Looking around for the voice that called her name, Maias jaw practically dropped.

Jogging up to her was the one person she never in a million years expected to see.

"Aiden called me...and..." This girl was more out of breath than Maia had seen her teammates during conditioning.

It was clear Daniella had not hit the court since her injury.

Either it was her exhaustion or the evident scars around her left knee that left a pit in Maias stomach.

"I just wanted to catch you before it was too late...and say I'm sorry," Daniella said, searching Maias face for any sort of reaction.

She was still trying to process the fact that Daniella was standing right in front of her, nevertheless some sort of apology.

"Why?" Maia asked in disbelief, unable to wrack her brain for some kind of reasoning.

"After hearing about what my dad did, I looked through a bunch of your game footage and other shit and-

Daniella looked up at the fluorescent lights, clearly angry with her father, "I just could not understand his stupid fucking brain!"

Maia couldn't help but laugh at her outburst.

"I mean just the numbers themselves say it all!" Daniella exclaimed. "You're one of the best players in the goddamn league, and I'm just so sorry for what he did."

Whether it was the emotions from her week or the fact the person she could not stop worrying about for the past 8 years was standing right in front of her, Maia just couldn't help but embrace her in a hug.

"I am so sorry too," Maia whispered.

"No no don't even start on that shit-

"Please, just let me," she said, pulling back from the hug. "I am so sorry for never reaching out or trying to make amends. You were one of the best and I think about that crazy ass jump shot of yours every day!"

Daniella smiled, reaching into her back pocket for a card.

"Girl, there isn't a day when I'm not replaying that insane cross up you had. It was a championship won fair and square, even if it did cost me my knee," Daniella chuckled, handing over her business card.

"Hit me up if you're ever in town, I've got a youth basketball program I run that needs an amazing coach like you."

Maia nodded, exchanging information with her.

With one last hug, the two were off on their separate ways and Maia was left with the life changing journey in front of her.

Ignoring the many cars honking and unfriendly hand gestures thrown his way, Hasan swerved through the drop off lane.

Spotting the familiar black Jeep, Hasan breathed a sigh of relief. Though, his stomach dropped once more when he realized it was only Aiden standing alone on the sidewalk.

Barely putting his car into park, Hasan sprinted towards the Jeep, barely reaching Aiden as he was about to shut the driver side door.

"AIDEN!"

It didn't take a detective to notice the visible eye roll before Aiden slowly rolled down his window.

"Oh my god! Look who finally fuckin showed up!"

"Look, I know I fucked up, okay?" Hasan plead, "i just need to know...is she close still?"

"...you might be able to catch her. Terminal 4."

"THANK YOU!" Hasan yelled back as he took off toward the glass doors of the airport.

"DONT FUCK THIS UP HASAN!"

He had one more chance.
