Chapter Twenty: Brand New

DEVANTE POV

It's been five months since K.O. left me! I'm just lost without her. I've been working with my label Swing Mob to take my mind off of her, and it's been a success! I decided to break up with her, because if she doesn't want to be with me, I'm not going to force something that isn't there. I didn't even tell her in person, but Dalvin did. From what he said, she was hurt. I was hurt too! Part of me wants to be with her, especially since she's doing so well. A few weeks ago, a show called Speak Up! aired and it's really successful. It's kind of like Yo MTV Raps but touches on music, politics, art, international/local news for the college scene. She performs on the show under her first and middle initials: K.O.

It just so happens that my girl group Sista is performing on the show. So I'm going to oversee the show with my homies and slide up on my girl. We got to the studio and sure enough I saw her sitting in a chair getting her make-up done. After 20 minutes, the segment began.

Sista's song "Hip-Hop" came on and K.O. came out dancing to it. The way she was rolling her hips and dancing to the beat made me want to jump on stage and beg for another chance.

Kakuya: Aye! Get down, hand me the mic, I'mma show ya party people what I like! Haha! Hey there, I'm K.O. and welcome to Speak Up, where we speak on current, local, international issues as well as discussing the hottest music! Today, this group has that "Come and Talk To Me" vibe. And no, we don't mean Jodeci!

(The audience goes "Awwwww!")

She didn't have to dog us like that, though!

Kakuya: Motownphilly! That's right, we have Boyz II Men in the building!

(The audience cheers)

Haha, now she's playing!

Kakuya: No no, let me quit playing! We have a hot new group that will be talked about for MANY YEARS TO COME!!! Here is Sista!

The audience and I applauded.

Kakuya: Hello girls!

Sista: HEY!!!

Kakuya: So, we have in order....

LaShawn: I'm LaShawn!

Radiah: I'm Radiah!

Chonita: I'm Chonita!

Missy: I'm Missy!

Kakuya: So, you guys are signed to what label?

Missy: Swing Mob!

Kakuya: Swing Mob? The name sounds familiar, but whose label is it again? It's on the tip of my tongue....I can't remember the guy's name....ugh! I hope this doesn't come out of my paycheck!

The girls were biting their lips trying not to laugh, I smacked my lips. I'm glad they didn't blow her cover, but she was doing the most.

Radiah: DeVante Swing!

Kakuya: Ah yes! From Jodeci, right?

Chonita: That's right. He's the man!

Kakuya: Is he really!? That's what I hear.

Missy: Yeah, he's the reason we're here. He's a genius. Cool, calm and collected when it comes to his artists.

She choked on the Gatorade she was sipping and cleared her throat.

Kakuya: I'm sorry, I drank that a bit too fast, my apologies girls!

Missy: Haha! You're good, it's sounds like you're a non-believer!

Kakuya: Oh no no, I've met him once in passing, seemed like a decent guy if you get past his looks you know.

Chonita: Well, we got a little something for you, K.O. .....

The cameraman motioned for K.O. to look ....

AN: MUAHAHAHAHA!!! Ya'll thought I was going to keep going. Haha! Stay tuned, my loves.
