Bloated by greasy food, Remy was in a contagious, joyful mood for the rest of the evening. Evira decided to not ruin it by telling her how she saw a little kid in the table next to them with an amphibian tail growing from his back.
They continued driving through Westminster – Evira had asked Haku where they were – to a hotel right on the end of the street. Seeing as there were many tourists visiting London since Christmas was coming up, the trio were only able to find a small room.
Remy changed gears into reverse as she parked on the side of the road, but abruptly braked half way, staring with her mouth wide into the rear view mirror.
"What's wrong?" Evira asked, looking around frantically.
"I thought I just saw – ah, it's nothing," corrected Remy, continuing to park.
Haku paid for a room, before the trio set off into their room for the night.
A glass pane on the opposite end of the living room overlooked the busy streets of London, but Evira was more engrossed with the large TV screen, and Remy with the kitchen. It only came with one bedroom, which after a game of rock, paper, scissors was given to Haku.
The TV screen clicked on. It was the news channel again, blabbering on about the unknown guy who came out of the River Thames.
"London's crazy. They have weird people trying to be the next Poseidon or something," Remy said, opening a bag of hula hoops.
"Poseidon?" Haku chuckled, coming out of the bathroom and drying his hair with his towel. "The water's hot so you should shower."
"Are you basically saying we're stinky but in a nice way?" Remy joked, but proceeded into the bathroom anyway.
Haku plopped onto the sofa next to Evira. This close up, Evira could smell strawberries and summery fruits. It reminded her of the summer time, whenever she would visit the crop farms with Alys. She scrutinised Haku's stomach suspiciously. "Weren't you injured in the forest? How come you're all healed?" She asked, pointing at his side.
"Oh – it was just a small injury. Just needed some medicine."
Evira hadn't seen him buy any medicine since they reached London, but decided not to pursue it further. "The shampoo doesn't suit you."
"No?"
She hugged her knees. "I always imagined you as a sea kinda guy."
The boy smiled. She guessed he looked kind of handsome. He wasn't like Logan or Axel, with a masculine sort of face, but Haku had the gaze of some innocent cat; angelic and elegant. His cheekbones were defined, and his skin was smooth. Yet, her gaze kept following his eyes. He was watching the TV, eyes focused and lips set in a grim line. The grey held all different shades – she thought it was more of a silver grey in the forest, but now it was leaning towards blue.
"Oooh, Evira why're you checking Haku out?"
Evira looked away to hide her red face. She cleared her throat. "I was just thinking how much better he looks compared to you, Euo."
Remy dropped her hula hoop packet on the floor. She pointed accusingly at Evira. "Take that back. Take that back now!"
As Remy flung herself at Evira like one of those flying monkeys, Evira quickly dodged into the bathroom to take her long awaited shower.
***
It wasn't long before Haku claimed he was going to sleep, leaving Evira and Remy alone in the living room. Evira pulled out the ring from her pocket, slipping it on and off her finger.
