How do you put back a world that was never there to begin with? What can you hold on to when all there is to grasp is a ghost? A memory that never was.
Peter is on his own, watching over MJ from a distance. But as he does, the world begins to shift...

Slowly, she settled in the crook of his arms, her body no longer a prisoner to her sobs, yet still trembling all the same.
But so was he.
Does she know? Maybe some part of her remembers....
He had held on to that hope for so long. This sudden proximity to her in this way threw him all out of sorts.
This wasn't a casual passing by in the coffee shop. This wasn't a moment where they were both in motion. This was MJ being in his arms again..the way she curled against him, her head laying on his chest.
This was a moment that seemed to pause time. Bringing him out of his memories of home, and remind him of what it looked like.
For him, if it was all he got, it would have been enough.
His fingers shakily trailed along her skin, soothing her to sleep. Funny, how he could keep his hands steady to crawl up a building, but touching her skin drove every part of him to tremble.
Her breaths slowed after a while, and she shifted slightly to look at him, this stranger who was rubbing circles around her back. She smiled a little.
"My mom used to do that to get me to sleep when I was little."
Peter smiled to himself. She had told him that before.
He responded, "Really? Huh. She sounds like a pretty good mom."
MJ's voice was quiet. "She was." She said softly as she leaned into him further. Peter knew how much MJ missed her. So he held her tighter.
How did this feel so familiar?
MJ was drunk at his touch. She had gone from so along to so...not wanting to be alone. In any definition of the word. It had been so long since she felt this way, she wanted more.
She dragged a finger down his abdomen, finding muscles tightening under her touch.
She didn't care that he paused. She would keep going to the point of recklessness.
She heard his heart hammering as it pounded in his chest.
"MJ.." He warned as her hand got dangerously close to somewhere it shouldn't be. The drugs had literally taken away any hesitation MJ would have felt normally. And....she was already pretty headstrong as it was. She wasn't going to let him caution her away.
"Still trying to stay away from me, Spiderman?" She mumbled lazily.
His eyes swept down her face as he conceded, his free hand running lazily through her curls. Tempted to take off the blindfold so he could see her eyes again, loose himself in them.
"You have no idea." He breathed into her hair. A partial admonition of his truth.
