Nikera's P.O.V
I watched as the new students took their seats. Stefphan's choice of headwear caught my attention. You dont ever see people with goggles on their head. Stefphan's skin was a little darker than mine and his eyes were a pretty gold. These two stood out like a sore thumb, you could tell they weren't from here. Akiza slouched in his chair with his earphones in as Stefphan played on his phone. Neither of them seemed interested in what we were learning and I didn't blame them. My phone accidentally went off in class and all eyes were on me, even the new students. I looked at it to see who was calling and it was my grandmother. I rushed out of the room to answer it because usually when my grandmother calls me during class it's an emergency. "Hello. Grandma what's wrong?" I said but the phone hung up. Maybe she didn't mean to call me. The bell rang and everyone ran out of the room, nearly knocking me over. " Are you ok?" A voice behind me asked. I turned around and found Ayanna holding her books against her chest. "Yeah I'm fine. Accidental call from my grandmother. " I responded. We both laughed and began to walk to class. Ayanna bumped into Akiza again and we all stopped. "You just can't stop running into me. " he said. "I apologize that you're always in my way. " Ayanna said. Akiza gave a quick half smile before starting an argument with Ayanna. I glanced at Stephan, who was already looking at me, and I smiled. He didn't smile back, he examined my face. I started to say something to him but Akiza spoke to him first. "Let's go before we're late." he said and Stefphan nodded. They walked away. "Did you see that! He intentionally started an argument with me!" Ayanna said. "Yeah well Stefphan didn't talk to me, he didn't even smile back. " I said. The school day went by fast, and I found it hard to get the 5 seconds of awkwardness with Stefphan out of my head. Ayanna and I saw the boys when we walked out of the school. They were sitting on the playground benches across the street. I wanted to go to him and ask him why he didn't say anything to me or smile back, but I didn't. I stood here looking at him as I played with the heart shaped locket my parents gave me years ago. My thoughts were interrupted as Ayanna spoke. "Huh?" I said while trying to keep my mind off Stefphan. "I said that my mom's here. Do you need a ride?" Ayanna asked. "No no, I'll walk" "alright well call me later" I nodded and she drove away. When I looked back to where Stefphan was, but he was no longer there. I shrugged my shoulders and began walking home. I've been living with my grandmother since my parents died in a car accident 5 years ago. The car accident really spooked my grandmother so she tends to be a little over protecting.
When I got home my grandmother immediately checked me for any injuries and questioned me. I love her like crazy but sometimes this gets annoying. "Grandma I'm ok. I have no injuries, I didn't talk to strangers, and it's 4:07pm which means I'm home earlier than my curfew. I'm fine" I explained. "Good. How was school?" "Same as always" I walked to my room before giving my grandmother another chance to speak. There's this door that's as big as a closet door and my grandmother keeps it locked. I am to never ever open that door unless she tells me to and she never does. It's right next to my bedroom and every time I look at it I get curious and want to open it, but of course I don't, Sometimes I almost do. I laid across my bed and thought about my day today. I wasn't sure if it was good or bad but honestly I didn't care anymore. I was just waiting for tomorrow.
