My hand slips through my purse strap, sliding it up my shoulder, I say "Cora! I'm leaving! Come on!" A few minutes earlier I had called Austin to inform him about my situation. It went something like this:
"Hey, Austin!"
"Hi darling," he responds.
Lord almighty.
"I hate to tell you this, on such short notice too, but you won't be picking me up. you will still be taking me home, but Cora wants to come to work, to watch us. Things have been difficult for her recently, to say the least."
"I hope she's doing okay, and if she ever needs anything, I will always be here. for her, or you. I assume she's taking your car back to your house tonight then? That's a perfect plan. As long as we can still be together tonight." I hear him say through the phone. His voice made my stomach flutter, and twist into a tight knot. he was so graceful with his words, and the way he spoke was so delicate. He can blink an eye and I'm on my knees. Just kidding! ... maybe.
"Yes! Thank you for understanding!" I say. "Goodbye now!"
"See you soon, Ms. Bloom." I hear him say, then a low beep comes from my phone.
Ms. Bloom? suddenly, I love my last name.
Present time
I place my foot softly onto the gas pedal, applying the slightest amount of pressure, reversing out of the driveway quickly, then speeding down the road. The soft sound of She by harry styles playing from the car speakers in the background. "Do you ever think about harry?" I hear Cora ask. I'm shocked by her question, but my eyes don't move from the road in front of us. I had to think about this one. "I don't think I will never not love him," I respond directly. "I think he was the love of my life," I add on to the sentence I had said before. what I was saying was true. I don't think I will never not love him. We had spent eight years together, and I couldn't want anything more. I wouldn't trade those years for absolutely anything. Though Joe was my last love, I don't think I will love any of my future girlfriends or boyfriends, as much as I loved him. I wait till the day I'm proven wrong."Do you ever miss loving someone?" Cora questions. I take in a sharp breath, letting it out with a sigh. "I do. I miss the feeling of loving and being loved. Being in a relationship just shows your compassion and commitment to someone. Letting your time be wasted upon love, mindless love. But time being wasted isn't all that bad, especially if it's with a lover. That's time wasted with someone you truly care about." I finish. I tried hinting to Cora that love isn't just about sex. She needs to find someone who will love her no matter what. Pregnant or not. She was a special person, who deserved someone just as special as her.
I see Cora's eyes light up as we close to the gate. "Stella Bloom. And this is Cora, a friend of mine. She's here to watch. For support." I tell the guard, which he raises an eyebrow at, but doesn't question. As I slip through the gate, and up on the slick asphalt, I see Cora's face shine. She was supporting my career for years, and this was the first time she would get to see how well it paid off. I grab my keys to the trailer, and tell Cora, "Go ahead and go. this is my trailer number." I say, pointing to small engraved numbers on the key. "I'll grab my things," I tell her, waving her on. I find a parking space, then my eyes trail over to see a tall figure standing close by. I park near the mystery figure. it was standing beside a car, which I assumed was theirs. I turn the key, the car's engine resting itself. I push the door open, letting it swing out fully, as there was no car parked directly beside me. Before I got out, I grabbed the purse I had slung over my shoulder before leaving the house. When I look back out of the car door, the figure was gone. Strange. I step my sandal-covered feet outside of the car. As I stand up, straightening my back, I look beside me to see Austin leaning on the side of my car. "Jesus christ Austin!" I yell. I can literally feel the shit in my pants. "You scared me!" I say. A smile appears on his face. I look up and roll my eyes, but reluctantly smile back. I grab his hand, intertwining our fingers together.
We slowly walk to my trailer. "I'm excited for tonight," I say, sparking up a conversation. Our hands sling forward and backward in unity. "You're excited? I'm excited, ok? Watching blue Hawaii, having wine? It's going to be great." He speaks. thump, thump, thump. I can hear my heart in my ears. If I hadn't tried to pull myself together, I think it would explode out of my chest. He looks down at my glimmering eyes, I look into his shiny blue ones. "See you soon, Elvis," I say, slowly letting go of his hands. "Back at you Priscilla," He responds, our fingertips trying to stay together for just a second longer. I swing open my trailer door. "Makeup outfit, and hair. You can go grab food. I'm sure there's food somewhere, there always is." I tell Cora, quickly dropping my purse on the couch. She nods. "Text me the room number, I'll be there." She says."After food, of course." She adds to reassure me. "wow, I have such an amazing friend." I say sarcastically. She exhales a laugh at my joke. "ok, kisses, love ya, see you in like thirty," I say, assuming it won't take long to grab donuts and coffee.
~*~
where is she? It's been an hour. I'm almost done with makeup and she's still not here! I've texted, called, snapped, literally everything in my power, but no response. Did Baz kidnap her? can I sue? Right as the thoughts flood into my head, I see a smug Austin resting on the door frame. "Hello, Mr. Army uniform." I joke. "Looks good, eh?" he questions me. "Always," I answer.
3rd pov
The two hair and makeup ladies look at each other, trying to hold in a giggle at the two, obviously flirting."Love on set?" One mouth. "I sure hope so!" The other mouths back. "You are also looking snazzy, Mrs. Presely." He says to Stella, in response, she lets out a giggle. Get a goddamn room. "All of our practice is paying off, in this scene. Right now." Austin declares. "Give me an hour, then it will be 'right now.'" Stella informs him. "Sure." He responds. "Can't wait to see you in your outfit." He says, inching away from the door. "bye Austin." Stella lets out before he's completely inched out of sight. "The two of you close now?" One of the women finally asks. "Well, sure, I guess. He's invited me over tonight to watch blue Hawaii, so I guess were building our relationship." Stella comments. "You sure seem like you're getting comfortable with each other." What's that supposed to mean? "I mean, we're trying. We cant totally be distant, playing on-screen lovers and all." She replies. "aaanddd... finished!" the two women say in sync. "Thank you so much! I owe you guys." Stella thanks. "We wish you did." One of them says under their breath. Now time to find Cora. As Stella pushes her way through people, down the hallway, the smell of donuts fills her nose. Cora must be here, she thought. And of course, she was. there Cora was, standing next to.. a man?! Are you kidding me? As Stella inches closer, she sees who the man is more clearly. Dacre fucking Montgomery. "Cora!" She says, creepily cheerily. "Stella.." Cora says, worried her friend will blow her chances with the first guy who has actually cared to know her favorite color. Stella turns on her heel to face Dacre. "hello Dacre. I see you've met my friend, Cora." "Yes! She seems to be a great person." He says, gaining eye contact with her. Oh fuckkk no. "I just want to tell you, I will do anything to have this baby grow to be strong, and healthy." Baby? Did she tell him? My stance loosens, as do my nerves. "You will?" Stella asks, just to make sure she was hearing correctly. He nods reassuringly. "Ok then.. have a nice day." She says leaving the two alone once more. He wasn't a duche? Is this a new species? Had Cora and Stella both won the jackpot?
