I woke up I have no idea how long later with a headache and a sore body. I've survived worse, but this is awful to wake up to. I soon remembered that Alice had taken Boris and I got up in a panic. I looked around with no sign of either of them. Forget getting home, I need to get Boris. I walked down the hall Alice took him and made it to the end of the hall where there was a sign that pointed two different ways.
I ignored what it said and went right. Down that hall, I saw two doors. I went into the room on the left to see a room with so much writing on the wall that I couldn't read most of it and another tape recorder. I played it but there wasn't anyone speaking. It sounded like someone was dying before going quiet and growling was heard. That's where it ended. I wonder what happened to that person.
I left the room and tried to open the other door but it was locked. So, I went back down the hall and down the other hallway. At the end of it was a door but no way to open it. Back down the other hall, I guess. I went back and into the open room to see a valve wheel. I think that's what I need. I took it, went back to the door, put the turn wheel on the door, and opened it.
Inside the room was dark until the lights turned on revealing a stage of frozen ink people in dramatic positions. I walked past them into the room behind them. It was a room full of books. A library maybe? It was a round room with bookshelves curving in the middle. In the middle was a small round table with a recording on it. Another message from Susie;
'They told me I was perfect for the role. Absolutely perfect. Now Joey's going around saying things behind closed doors. I can always tell. Now he wants to meet again tomorrow, says he has an "opportunity" for me. I'll hear him out. But if that smooth talker thinks he can double-cross an angel and get away with it, well, oh he's got another thing coming. Alice, oooh, she doesn't like liars.'
I think 'perfect for the role' is an understatement at this point. She's obsessed with it. This would be the last message I ever heard from Susie. Looking around more, I saw a door that has five lights above it and a sign saying 'Private'. Well, now I'm curious. Next to the door, I saw that a book was slightly standing out from the shelf. I pushed it neatly back with the others when I saw one of the lights turned on.
That's the lock for this door? A bit obvious, really. I looked around for more of these books and pushed them back in. But, when I pushed the third one in, I got visions of the room lighting up more and the light above swinging from side to side. It stopped just as fast as it started. How did that happen? Ignoring it, I pushed in the rest of the books when I found them and the door opened.
I went through to see a never-ending pit going down. There were platforms and stairs going up and down but the stairs were broken so I only had one way to go and that was up. But, as I went up one set of stairs, I saw the only way to keep going up was across on a little basket thing. Unfortunately, it was broken so I need to fix it with parts I don't have. Behind me looked like a dispenser thing so I had a look at it.
There were options for different things. One of them was a cog which is what I need. I tried to get it but I got nothing. I need something to trade, don't I? There was a hallway next to me so I went down there to look for something. I found a giant pipe and a lever on the other side of the room. I pulled it and the pipe lifted up revealing a bath of ink. There was also a valve so I turned it and one of those ink creatures appeared with a small ink spot on its back.
Wait, this is the same thing Alice wanted while I was doing her errands. I took it off of the Swollen One and it disappeared. I went back to the dispenser and put the ink in and used the machine. It made a working noise before spitting out the ink which formed into the cog. So that's how it works. I put the cog where it needed to be and called the moving platform over to me. Once it was here, I got in and it took me to the other side.
There was a point when I thought it just stopped halfway but it started to move again. Once it got to the other side, I got out and walked to a door in front of me. There was another long hallway. I started to walk down it when I suddenly got another vision of arms coming out of the walls, trying to grab me. I just walked through them until the vision stopped. I walked out of the hallway to see another endless pit and stairs going up. As I turned to walk up the stairs, Alice spoke up;
'I see you there, my little errand girl. Your angel is always watching. What is it that keeps you going? Is it the thrill of the hunt? The thirst for your freedom? Or perhaps... You're just looking for a little, friendly, wolf...' She chuckled, 'Better hurry errand girl. Boris is having trouble staying in one piece.'
"Are you ever satisfied? I'm taking Boris and I'm leaving. I've had enough of you for a lifetime," I said as I got to the top of the stairs.
