then
I flattened out my dress trying to flatten the wrinkles as I stood in the elevator. I had gotten off of work early due to the early hurricane that was approaching tonight.
As I stepped off of the elevator I made my way through the empty halls to my apartment complex. As I was doing so I heard sounds of muffled shouting. The further I walked the louder the voice became. It made me hesitate on walking as I just about rounded the corner. It was a women leaning against the wall while a shorter women was shouting.
The person against the wall looked almost in disbelief with a small sarcastic smile as she stared at the blonde. I quietly stood for a second trying to see what was going on. The women leaning against the wall turned her head to the side and caught my eye. Her face went blank and she sat up straight from the wall.
Knowing I was already caught red handed I came into the open and continued my way to my place. I tried to pretend I wasn't lerking by ignoring her stare and made way to my door. That was until I saw a rather familar face next to the women who was shouting. I froze.
Kaleb, my fiance, was leaning against the door frame shirtless. When he realized it was me he stood up straight like a deer caught in headlights. My mouth hung a gap. It wasn't rocket science to put together what was happening.
Suddenly this situation was now my business. "Scotland, it's not-"
I put my hand up for him to stop talking. I took in the situation in front of me again before laughing in disbelief. I wasted no time to pull the engagement ring off of my finger and throwing it at his face. "You got it."
Even with my nonchalant attitude my heart was stinging with betrayal. Kaleb was supposed to be on a business trip in Italy as of right now. He wasn't supposed to be back until next week.
"I don't want to be apart of this conversation. I'm done." I then looked at the women that was leaning against the wall. "Sorry." I say, feeling bad for her. It probably wasn't a bad assumption to say that the women with my ex-fiance was her girlfriend.
She looked at me sympathetically but I didn't want it right now. Thunder erupted from outside causing me to dismiss myself and go to my apartment. It wasn't that far; just a few doors down. He probably met her while leaving my house every now and then. That son of a bitch.
When I entered through my door I took in deep breaths trying to contain my emotions. I refuse to shed tears over him. At least at the moment. I leaned against my door, letting out a deep sigh.
When I collected myself I kicked my shoes off and made my way to my kitchen, blocking out any thoughts that wished to surface in my head. I grabbed a wine glass and filled it up with red wine. All the way to the rim. As I began to chug it I heard a soft knock at my door. Knowing who was behind it made me drink the red wine faster.
Once it was all gone I walked back towards my door. "What do you want?" I yelled hoping he would get the message and fucking leave. When there was no response I unlocked my door and pulled it open. I was ready to snap until I saw the girl from before. She looked at me awkwardly.
"Uh hi." She said. I raised an eyebrow at her, signaling her to continue. "I can't get to my car with the storm. And you can deny me but I was wondering if I could stay here until then?" My mind immediately directed to the answer no. I didn't know her and the only thing we had in common at the moment was the relation of our partners cheating. With one another.
But my last thought made me feel bad. And it would be embarrassing for her to just stand out here.
I looked down the hallway and saw the ex-girlfriend still standing there, staring directly at us. Giving in, I opened my door wider. "I'm sipping on wine if you want some." The blue eyed women smiled while walking into my apartment. I peered at the girl again and stuck up my middle finger before walking back inside.
As I closed the door the women stood in the room uncomfortably. "My names Scotland by the way." I introduced, already feeling the wine hitting my system. The girl turned to face me with a gentle smile. "Billie."
