"Oh, thank god you could make it!" My sister Megan said as I walk in her front door and her 3-year-old daughter was screaming and crying her head off.
"Hey chick, what's with the powerful lungs?" I asked walking up to my niece Holly. She let me pick her up and she calmed down slightly but reached for Megan.
"I have to go to London with Chris, and I had no one else to call." Megan said taking Holly from me. Megan and her husband had just gotten divorced, and he moved out of state, so no help there.
"Okay well go. I got things here covered. Me and Miss Holly are going to have a grand time. Not sure that required me packing suitcase and bringing my passport though, wait are we going with you?" I asked confused.
"Oh...I think you misunderstood me. I don't need you to watch Holly and you aren't going with me." Megan said.
"Then what do you need from me?" I asked.
"I need you to go to London with Chris for the premiere of Lightyear." Megan said.
"Megan...I can't go with Chris! This is your job. You know what to do. I have no clue. He will want someone with experience." I said annoyed.
"Rory, come on I could really use a favor here. Chris is well aware of the situation, and I can't leave Holly. With me and her dad splitting up she needs a parent." Megan said.
"Megan, I know nothing about how to usher him through press or anything. I can't do this!" I said annoyed.
"You have come with me and shadowed me enough. You can do this. Each interviewer asks 3 to 5 questions depending on his length of answers. Please just do this one thing for me. He has some press for a couple of days then the premiere." Megan explained and handed me a folder of his schedule.
"Megan! Wait a damn minute..." I said and she shook her head.
"Please Rory. I don't ask for much..." Megan said and I groaned knowing she never really did ask for help a lot of times.
"Chris knows it could be me coming?" I asked and she nodded.
"He would like me to stay with Holly. He knows family is important. I haven't gotten a chance to tell him who will be taking my place yet." Megan said and I groaned. I sighed as a car pulled up outside and honked. "That's the ride to go pick up Chris and go to the airport. Go, he can't be late." Megan said and shoved me out the door basically and I grabbed the suitcase and my purse.
"I'll be calling and Face Timing you for help." I said and she nodded.
"I expect it, now go." She said and I walked outside. Megan walked me to the car. I hugged her and hugged Holly.
"You owe me Megan!" I said as I got in the car.
"I know, I know. Love you!" Megan said as the car pulled away. I had packed my laptop and everything because I thought I would need everything even when I was staying and watching Holly. I pulled out my cellphone and started putting the dates of everything in my phone since I knew I would need them and not always have the paper copy with me. After about a 20 minute we were pulling up to the gate and hitting the button.
"Yes?" I heard his voice asked.
"Car pick up for the airport Mr. Evans." The driver said and the gate buzzed open. It had been about a year since I had driven through this gate.
*****FLASHBACK, A YEAR AGO*****
I punched in the gate code to get in through the gate. Once I was inside, I walked up to the door and just knocked on the door and waited for the answer. Once the door opened, I smiled at Chris standing there.
"Come on in." Chris said as I walked in and loved on Dodger for a minute. We walked to the living room and sat down. I was nervous about this talk, and I knew Chris was too. We didn't want to hurt each other or make this awkward.
"You want to start?" I asked and Chris sighed and nodded.
"Rory...I like you, you are a nice, sweet person always willing to please everyone and be there. This past month has been great, but I just don't feel anything for you than more than a friend." Chris said and I smiled and nodded.
"I feel the same way, Chris." I said and he smiled.
"So, we are good with just being friends?" Chris asked and I nodded.
"Oh yeah, for sure." I said and Chris pulled me into a hug, and I accepted it. I was so happy he said it first. We really only went on the first date because my sister Megan, his manager, set it up. She was always trying to get us together.
"Who is telling Megan?" Chris asked and I laughed as we broke apart from our hug.
"You." I spoke up quickly and he laughed. "I'll tell her, I have dinner with her tonight any way." I said and Chris smiled and nodded.
"I'm really sorry this couldn't work out Rory." Chris said and I shook my head.
"Chris, I felt the same way. It's okay." I said and he smile.
*****END FLASHBACK*****
And that was the last interaction I had at this house. I would see Chris every now and again if he was at Megan's when I just so happened to stop over but that was about it. Once the car pulled up to the door Chris came walking out with his suitcase and carry-on bag. The driver got out and loaded his bags in the trunk and then Chris got in the car and saw me.
"I knew she would con you into doing this." Chris said with a laugh getting in the car.
"Yeah, I thought I was watching Holly and imagine my surprise." I said and Chris laughed. The driver got I the car and headed off to the airport.
"Okay so you have to help me out Chris because I have no clue what I'm doing." I said and he chuckled.
"Hey, it will be fine. I have faith in you and so does Megan. Once you get back on the carpet, I'm sure everything from when you shadowed her will come back to you."
"Okay I only shadowed her 3 years ago because she was pregnant and in case she went into labor. It was more for her and the baby then watching what she did for you." I said and Chris sighed.
"You got this Rory, trust me. I will help you where I can but it's like riding a bike, I promise you that." Chris said and sighed.
"Yeah, I guess we'll see." I said and Chris grabbed my hand.
"We got this." Chris said and I smiled giving his hand a squeeze. We released hands and road in silence while I kept updating my phone and schedule on the drive.
