01 | introduction

Felix giggles as he holds the white controller, looking over at his opponent. "I'm so gonna beat you." He says with confidence between his giggles. "You suck at this, man."

"Lee Felix, Language!" His mother yells from the other room.

Felix let's out a groan, trying not to throw his hands up. "That's not even a cuss word!" He yells back in his defense.

Hyunjin, the said opponent, speaks up. "Trust me, he can say worse." He adds in, widening his eyes and raising his eyebrows.

His mom lets out a sigh as she walks into the room, holding snacks for the two twelve year old boys. "I honestly don't even think I want to know what you mean by that."

Felix eyes Hyunjin, before both boys snicker. They quickly go back to focusing on the racing game. They don't make another sound, too concentrated to even trash talk.

The older women let's out a breath. Finally. Felix's mom was content with how silent it was, until it wasn't.

"Yes! Hah!" Hyunjin exclaims, jumping up out of his seat in celebration. He points a finger to Felix. "Suck on that!" He yells, spinning around and clapping loudly.

"Oh my god." Felix's mom exclaims, turning away from the boys. "I give up. Oh my god." She lets out a huff before walking away. "I actually give up!"

Meanwhile, Hyunjin had spent his time rubbing his win in Felix's pitiful face. "Oh, oh my gosh you suck man" He says in a mocking voice. "–Well look who sucks now!"

Felix glares, a very angry expression on his face as his arms remain crossed. "Oh, shut up!" He groans, turning away. His anger doesn't last long, considering he is secretly holding a smile back.

Truth is, he knows and willingly admits he sucks at this game. He also hates any other video game. The only reason he agrees to play is for Hyunjin, for the look of pure joy on the boys face as they play. It makes Felix so happy.

However, he sometimes takes the bragging too far. Way too far. It actually hurts Felix's feelings sometimes, but he always get over it. He just has to level him.

Hyunjin frowns when he sees the younger turn away, rushing over. His bragging phase is over, and now he feels guilty for pushing it that far. He puts a hand on Felix's shoulder.

"No, don't be sulky." He whines. "I'm sorry, you actually are really good. Way better than me." He says, sitting back down.

The smile Felix is holding in comes right out at the sudden apology. He, however, doesn't let Hyunjin off the hook that easy. He huffs. "Oh whatever. You're only saying that."

"No." Hyunjin drags out. He starts lightly shaking Felix by the arm. "I mean it." He clarifies.

Felix turns to him, putting on an interrogating face. "Really?" He asks with a growing smile.

"Yes, really." Hyunjin nods. "You're the best person I know." He smiles with his toothy smile.

Felix giggles, blushing a little bit. Hyunjin looks over his facing, noting the pink shakes. He starts to giggle at the younger boy. "You are." He says, pushing him away.

He sits normally and smiles, looking over to the TV, then to the boy. "Let's play another round?" He asks.

It's a little bit later that night, and the boys are silent as they lay on the bed in Felix's room. They just were staring at the ceiling talking, when it started to get serious.

Felix let's out a sigh. He has many thoughts on his young mind, but only shares one of them. He looks to Hyunjin before he speaks. "I wonder what we will be like when we grow up." He says.

It's quiet for a second, as Hyunjin tries to think of what to say. It's safe to say that one of them is a little more mature, because Hyunjin's next words are something else.

"Probably really handsome." He confidently declares.

Felix let's the answer register, taken aback. He laughs. "Yeah, maybe." He says, before looking back to the ceiling. "But I don't mean that, I mean like.. us." He emphasizes.

Hyunjin pauses, just thinking for a second. He furrows his brows and turns over to look at the younger boy. "What do you mean?" He asks.

Felix sucks in a breath. What does he mean? He shrugs. "I don't know. I mean what if we like— I don't know, stop being friends suddenly." He replies, deep in thought.

"I just wonder what we will be like in a couple years." He says. "I mean, we finish middle school next year– and then what?" He turns to Hyunjin briefly.

Hyunjin understands now. He's afraid of high school, and the possibility of losing friends, losing him. He shakes his head. "Felix, we will always be friends." He nudges him. "I mean it. So don't worry about stuff like that.

Felix smiles at his words, liking the reassurance. He sighs. "I know, I know." He says. "I just can't help but wonder."

"Well, stop." Hyunjin sits up, looking down to Felix with determined eyes. "I don't want you to worry. We will always be close, I promise." He says. "You're my best friend." He insists, smiling at him.

Felix looks at the boy, and nods his head. "I hope." He says softly, a feeling of tenderness.
