Puppy

Byakuya knew that his boyfriend had been feeling down lately, so he researched a couple of ways to boost his serotonin. Surprisingly to him, cuddling up to a dog was a very highly-ranked option.

He went to many different pet companies and dog breeders to find the perfect puppy for Makoto.

Byakuya continuously told himself that the idea of adopting a pet into their household for the mere state of pleasure was foolish and improper, but he couldn't help but feel a slight touch of happiness when looking at the puppy.

He struggled to take his eyes off of her; she was unlike any dog he had ever seen. She was a small Maltese dog, but not the pretty kind.

Her fur was short and messy, her face was scrunched and little. Byakuya had only ever been exposed to more "elegant" pets. Like white-furred cats or teacup poodles. He would've gotten a sophisticated dog if it were for him, but he figured that it wouldn't be what Makoto would want.

On his way back from the breeder he had chosen, he looked down at the puppy in her expensive, metal cage.

"I do believe you'll become a reputable bitch in the Togami Conglomerate. I expect you won't let either of us down." Byakuya smiled at her before putting his fingers up to the cage.

The dog simply wagged her tail in response. She moved over to where Byakuya had put his hand, and sniffed it cautiously. She then licked the tip of his finger, to which Byakuya groaned in disgust.

"Save that kind of behavior for Makoto, he'd appreciate it a lot more than I would." Byakuya reprimanded her, wiping his hand with a handkerchief before tossing it out the window. They spent the rest of the car ride in silence.

After an hour or two of driving, they arrived back at the mansion.

"Naegi! I've brought you something!" Byakuya yelled from the bottom of their staircase. Makoto soon popped his head out from over the railing, wearing nothing but his pajama pants.

"What is it?" "Come down here and I'll show you." Makoto groaned under his breath and ran down the stairs. Byakuya led him into a large guest bedroom on the west side of the mansion.

"Byakuya, I've already seen this room before- wait! Are you kicking me out of our room?! Do you want me to start sleeping alone again?! I don't want to!"

Byakuya stared at Makoto blankly before chuckling.  "Calm down, darling.  I wouldn't kick you out of our room."  Makoto sighed in relief and laughed quietly at himself.

"Anyways, this is what I wanted to  show you."  Byakuya gestured to the cage, keeping his eyes on Makoto.

He watched as Makoto's eyes lit up with joy as he rushed over to the puppy.  "It's so cute!  Is it ours?"  Makoto picked up the dog and brought it to his chest.  She licked and pawed at his face.

"Yes, Naegi.  We have a dog now."  Makoto set the dog down, to which she immediately went to sniffing out the room.  He ran to Byakuya and threw his arms around him.  "Thank you!  I can't believe you remembered that I wanted a puppy."

Byakuya gently patted Makoto's back and adjusted his glasses to hide his flusterment.  "Well, of course.  I take note of the things you say, Naegi.  I... care."  Byakuya smiled.

"Thank you, Byakuya!  I love you!"

"Hmph.  I love you too."

(Note: a random thing I want you all to notice about this story; Byakuya calls Makoto by his last name when he's talking to him, but calls him by his first name when he's not there.  I wanted to add this to show that Byakuya is still a little embarrassed about being so close to somebody, and chooses not to show it.  A small detail, but I think it's kind of cute :) )

EXTRA:

"What do you want to name her, Naegi?"

"Umm... How about Kyoko?  Like Kirigiri!"

Byakuya scrunched his nose in disagreement.

"Don't you think it's a little strange to name a dog after Kirigiri?"

"Oh...  I guess you're right.  Then how about Chuck?  After Mondo's dog."

"She's a girl, Naegi."

"Girls can be named Chuck!"

Byakuya sighed.

"Why does she have to be named after someone else?  Let's give her something original."

"Fine...  I just feel like it means more if she's named after someone."

Byakuya nodded to show that he understood, but still didn't agree.

"Okay, how about Kiko or Momo?"

"Those are rather basic, Naegi."

Makoto pouted and crossed his arms.

"Why don't you think of something then!"

"Hmph.  She's your dog."

"She's OUR dog!"

"I got her for you, but fine.  How about... Ugh.  I'm not good at names, Naegi."

"Then don't criticise mine!"

"Let's just name her Inu.  It's simple and it means dog."

"That's even more basic than Kiko!"

"Whatever, it doesn't matter.  Her name is Inu now."

Makoto puffed out his cheeks to show frustration.  Even though he did like the name, he chose not to show it just so Byakuya couldn't win.
