Zak ended up falling asleep during our movie. I carefully reach over him to the nightstand to see that it was already 6pm. Trying not to disturb Zak, I slowly move my arm from around his waist and walk out to the balcony of our hotel room. The beach was still somewhat busy with locals and tourists, but is clearing out quickly as the sun starts to set.
My eyes well up with tears as I think about my life and the remainder of what it may be here with Zak. I missed Kelsey. I missed her, Aaron, Billy, and Jay so much. I knew if I called her I definitely wouldn't be able to hold back the tears so I text her instead.
'Hey, chica. I miss you!'
I pull up Aaron's name in my messages and send him a text too. He was really like a big brother to me as I had gotten closer to him than with Jay or Billy.
'Hey, Aaron. I just wanted to check in. I miss y'all.'
I place my phone in the back pocket of my shorts and wait for a reply.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Zak walks up behind me and wraps his arms around my waist.
"Nothing. You fell asleep and I didn't want to wake you," I turn around to him. "I was just texting Kelsey and Aaron. I miss everyone."
"I know, babe. I'm sorry," he says kissing the top of my head. "Did you want to go to your mom and Eddie's for dinner?"
"Umm, yeah. I guess we probably should." I freshen up in the bathroom touching up my makeup and brushing my teeth. "My hair is a disaster," I whisper to myself as I look in the mirror brushing out the messy brunette waves with my fingers.
"You're perfect." Zak stands in the doorway staring at me thru the mirror. "Ready?" I smile to Zak and he drives us back to my mom's house.
"Are you sure it's okay we keep using your car?" I ask my mom to break the awkward silence at the dinner table.
"Of course, honey," she smiles.
The four of us enjoy each other's company as we munch on some salmon, potatoes, and salad that my mom had made. "This is delicious. Thank you," Zak shows his gratitude.
"Anytime, Zak. Did everyone have enough?" She asks looking everyone's empty plates.
"Yes, thank you," Zak speaks for us and starts helping my mom and Eddie clear off the table.
"Oh, Zak you don't have to do that."
"I really don't mind," Zak says bringing our plates into the kitchen and sets them down by the sink. He begins to rinse them off and my mom stops him.
"Please," she insists. "You don't need to."
"Thank you for dinner," he hugs my mom. "And for raising the most amazing daughter." Zak looks over my mom's shoulder and winks at me. Of course, he would turn my cheeks red at the comment. I quickly look away hoping he wouldn't notice.
As I'm sitting at the dinner table my back pocket vibrates with messages from Kelsey and Aaron. I move myself to the loveseat couch in the living room and Zak joins me.
'Hey, girl. I miss you too. How is everything there?'
'Hey, Shawn! We miss you too. Hope everything is going well and that Zak is treating you right ;)'
A smile creeps across my face at Aaron's message. "What is it?" Zak asks.
"Just Aaron being a goober. I had messaged him earlier just to say hi."
"Yeah, you can never bank on Aaron being serious about anything."
'Everything is going pretty good here. Just been spending time with mom and Eddie. I ran into Luke, can you believe that?' I reply to Kelsey.
