eight years ago...

Constellation flew across the sky, feeling the sunlight against her green-black scales. She felt giddy, happy, and her face was smiling. Her mother, on the other hand, was frowny and angry.
"Mom, why are you so grouchy? Today's amazing and we're going to the Ice Kingdom as a PEACEMAKING COMMITTEE! WHAT MORE CAN YOU WANT! By all the moons, get that frown off your face! The sun's amazing today, the world's amazing, we're about to arrive, EVERYTHING IS SO AMAZING-"

Virgo, her mother, clamped a talon over Constellation's snout. "Shut up. Knowing you, you'll pull a Foeslayer and everything will go wrong. Plus, last time this happened, an entire war just appeared."

"Alright, grouch-snout." Constellation rolled her eyes, pushing Virgo's talon away. Caelum laughed and Constellation smiled. "Hey, Caelum, over here!"

Caelum, a completely black NightWing, flew over. "Hi, C." Caelum was a twitchy NightWing and he was very sweet. Constellation liked him for that.

"What do you think the Ice Kingdom will look like?" Constellation wondered.

"You don't have to think, it's right there," Virgo snapped.

Caelum looked at Virgo and then at Constellation. "Ouch," he mouthed to Constellation. Constellation smiled back.

"Here we are!" Constellation cried. Three MOONS! IT'S SO PRETTY! "The scrolls didn't say it was this pretty,"

Eyeroll from Virgo. Smile from Caelum.

"Land." Virgo commanded. Constellation tumbled down in excitment, while it took more than forever for Caelum to land.

"Brr, it's SO cold," Constellation shivered.

"Ice Kingdom? Cold? Hello?" Caelum waved a talon.

Constellation smiled at him.

"Quit it. Caelum and I've got matters to solve with an IceWing named Glaze. You stay here and be good." Virgo snarled.

Constellation gave a cheeky grin and nodded, folding her wings in. Caelum returned the grin and followed Virgo.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO COLD.

Barely a moment passed when an IceWing flew over to her. "Hello, there. I am Prince Iceberg of the IceWings. You?"

"Hi! THREE MOONS ARE ALL OF YOU THIS SPARKLY!? I mean, I'm Constellation of the NightWings. Good day," Constellation admired the IceWing's looks. He had glacier blue scales and pristine horns, plus pretty markings that not even a SandWing had, plus spikes all over his body. His scales were perfectly sharp and his eyes were sky blue. She poked her head around to take a good look at the undersides of his wings. She wished she could have a model of them: IceWings were prettier than the SandWings, and SandWings used to be her favorite tribe because to her they were pretty.

"Um," Iceberg looked at her. "GREAT ICE SPIRITSM ARE NIGHTWINGS ACTUALLY GREEN? Oooh, that is so pretty,"

"Thanks," Constellation drawled, still looking at the undersides of his wings. "What- why- why is it so sparkly??"

"Uh... Why are you green?" He asked evasively.

"Me? Green-... oh." Constellation looked at her scales. They were exposed to the arctic sun, and they were also sparkly. "Yay! I'm sparkly!" she danced around, trying to get a look at her tail. Finally, she did, and it was also so sparkly.

Iceberg scrunched up his nose. "You're very sparkly," he replied. "Can I see your wings?"

Constellation spread them.

"Hey! That's- those look like constellations!" Iceberg cried.

"Um, hello? That's my name, for a reason!" she giggled.

Iceberg shook his head roughly and suddenly and looked at the sun. "Sorry! I need to see Mink- I mean, Princess Mink real quick!"

Constellation tilted her head. "Okay," she shrugged, and Iceberg gave her a smile and flew away.

He flew away and Constellation tried to get a look at the Ice Palace when another IceWing barrelled into her. "I AM PRINCESS MINK! DO YOU LIKE ICEBERG?"

"Good day, Princess." Constellation said quickly.

Princess Mink looked at her. "I asked a question, NightWing. Answer it,"

The fact that she had said "NightWing" without loathing surprised Constellation.

"Great! Um, no...? And by the way, I'm Constellation of the Peacemaking Committee,"

"Well, Constellation, you better like him, 'cause he's head over heels for you right now." Mink admonished her.

"Mink, can you step out in the sunlight? I want to see if you're sparkly too," Constellation said in a prevaricated way.

"Fine," she huffed, not even correcting that fact that she had called her without the royal title. She stepped out in the sunset and her wings caught light.

They were sparkly too! "Oh my god! You're as sparkly as he is! But he's sparklier-er. But you look as pretty as the SandWings! Or RainWings!" Constellation cried.

Mink grinned toothily. "Thanks! By the way, DO YOU LIKE ICEBERG?"

"Umm.... yes?" Constellation tried. She didn't actually, but saying no would probably be pulling a reverse Foeslayer with the same effects.

"Alright! Cool!" Mink grinned again and took off.

Oh no. Caelum! Constellation drew in a sharp breath.

Constellation tried to breath, but she suddenly couldn't. She saw Virgo and Caelum coming, but she still couldn't drive away the panic building up inside of her.

"What did you do?!?!?" Virgo cried.

"No! Some IceWing came and we talked, now he's totally in love with me and Princess Mink really wants us to be a couple and- and I don't," Constellation summed up.

"Oh, what a mess!" Virgo snarled.

Caelum looked at her pityingly.

"I love you, Caelum, not him," Constellation whispered.

"It's ok. You'll be ok. You will be ok," Caelum told her, which was rich coming from him, since he was a pretty twitchy NightWing.

Constellation tried not to inhale sharply again.

Iceberg was flying down with like, two hundred thousand IceWings.

"Constellation of the NightWings!" Iceberg boomed. The IceWings all landed. "I, Prince Iceberg of the IceWings,"

Oh no. He seriously doesn't know how to propose, does he? Oh no, oh no, what about Caelum? Constellation tried not to look frantic. She loved Caelum, but now Iceberg... and not to mention, he was a prince...

Iceberg was still rambling nonsense. "And now, would you like to marry me?"

Constellation felt trapped. Her positivity sapped out of her, but she still smiled boisterously. "Yes! Also, is it just me, or are all IceWings not as sparkly as royal family members? But still super sparkly?" she said in a rush.

"Thank you!" Iceberg's smile was so big, it tore a hole of guilt from her chest.

She forced a smile.

This is not going to end well.
