Y/n's POV

Watching Meredith interact with Derek I sigh to myself knowing that she'd never look at me like that and quickly turn and walk away from the pair. Walking into an on-call room I sit down on one of the beds and rest my head in my hands with a groan. How had I been stupid enough to actually let myself develop feelings for Meredith Grey? Especially when I knew that I stood no chance against Derek fucking Shepherd! Looking up when I hear the door open I bite back a groan as the lovebirds stumble in and quickly get up to leave.

"Oh, y/n. We didn't see you come in here, we'll leave." Derek says and I give him a tight smile as I shake me head.

"It's fine, I just needed a moment to myself before I have to go back to my patients. I'll be going now." I tell him and leave without giving him a chance to say anything. Moving as fast as I can away from the on-call room I ignore the looks that both Mark and Addison send me before they proceed to follow me into a supply closet and I slide down to the floor quietly.

"Hey, how are you holding up?" Addison asks as she slides down to sit next to me while Mark stands against the door to stop anyone from getting in.

"I'll be fine Addie, I just need a moment without those two in my face." I tell her and she nods in understanding. "I was offered a job out in L.A. and I'm starting to think it wouldn't be a bad idea if I go out there." I admit and she sighs as she wraps her arms around me, pulling me into a hug.

"Let me guess, Naomi called and offered you a state of the art job?" She asks and I shake my head.

"Sam called, he wanted my opinion on a case and if a certain procedure would help and mentioned that they were on need of a decent cardiothoracic surgeon at the practice. I told him I'd think about it and get back to him." I explain and she kisses my head. "It hurts Addie and I'm terrified. I haven't felt like this since I broke up with Charlotte."

"Do you think that this is the best move for you?" Mark asks and when I look up at him all I see is concern in his eyes. Biting my lip I nod while blinking back my tears and he offers me a soft smile as he reaches out to wipe away the stray tear that fell. "Then, as much as I hate to say this, I think that you should take the job. You need to do what's right for you y/n and if this is it, then go for it."

"What do you think Addie?" I ask as I take Mark's hand in mine and turn to look at my sister.

"So long as you promise to call me whenever you can and come back to visit at times then I agree with Mark. I hate seeing you like this y/n and I want you to be happy. If that's in L.A. then so be it." She says gently and I smile at her. "You can also guarantee that we'll come out to visit you. Especially if you get a house by the sea."

"We'll see Addie, we'll see." I tell her and let Mark pull me up into him. "You two really are the best you know that right?"

"Oh we know y/n." Mark says cheekily and I roll my eyes at his behaviour. "Now we have lives to save and you have to talk to Richard and let Sam know that you're taking the job." He adds and pulls me out if the supply closet with a laugh.

*Timeskip*

Today is my last day at Seattle Grace Hospital, not that many people knew of course. I had somehow managed to keep my leaving a secret from everyone except for Addie, Mark and Richard. Unfortunately, I was working with Meredith today and had to bite my tongue a few times to keep myself from saying anything but I somehow got through the day. Once my shift finishes I meet Addie and Mark just outside of the hospital where they both give me tight hugs.

"Are you sure about this y/n? It's not too late to change your mind." Addison says quietly as she cups my cheeks and I bite back my tears as I nod and spot Derek and Meredith leave the hospital. "You call us the minute that you land, do you understand? I don't care of its the middle of the night or if I'm in the middle of a surgery, you call me the minute you get off that plane."

"Addie, I promise to call you when I land." I tell her with a chuckle amd she relaxes slightly. "It's not as if I'm leaving forever, I'll be back at some point to make sure that you two haven't killed or seriously injured each other. Plus you two will need to come out and check out the house, which is right on the beach Addie."

"What's going on here?" Derek asks as he approaches us with Meredith hanging onto his arm and I give Addie and Mark a look.

"Oh Addison's just being her normal self worrying about me while Mark's laughing at her behaviour." I tell him and I feel bad for lying to him but I just can't tell him because I know that he'll ask question after question until I explode and tell him everything. "Now, who has time for a drink or two before we head home for the night?" I ask and Mark lights up at that. Grabbing my arm he lifts me over his shoulder as he starts to walk across the road to Joe's making everyone laugh at his antics.

"You be safe out there y/n and if you want to come back at any point we'll make it happen you know that right?" He asks as he puts me down and we wait for the others to catch up with us. Leaning into his side I smile up at him.

"I know, now I need you to promise me something. You need to look after Addison, we both know that she acts like she can conquer the world herself but she really does need someone that she can turn to in times of need. I need you to do that for me Mark Sloan, look after my sister for me." I tell him tearing up and he nods while clearing his throat. "Thank you."

"You're welcome y/n." He says just as the others approach us and he offers them a smile that I know isn't real. "Right, let's go have a drink then." He adds as he escorts me and Addie into the bar.

Watching the four people I love more than anything in the world laugh and joke together as I gather my things I quietly slip out of the pub. Taking a moment to check that my ticket and passport are still in my bag I don't realise that Derek's followed me out until he wraps his jacket around my shoulders.

"Going somewhere?" He asks as he takes note of the contents of my bag and I look at him with a small smile and nod. "Were you going to say goodbye? Or were you just going to sneak off?"

"Don't make this harder than it already is Derek, please." I tell him as we walk down the road a bit and away from the bat. "There's a letter in your locker that you were meant to find tomorrow that will explain everything."

"Can I atleast know where you're going and when you'll be back?" He asks quietly and I turn to look at him.

"I'm going out to L.A. and I don't know when I'll be back. I got offered the job of a lifetime Derek, one that I couldn't turn down." I tell him gently and take his hand. "I'll be back at some point to visit, maybe even to work someday but for now this is the right move for me."

"Will you please tell me why you're leaving?" He asks and I smile at him while squeezing his hands.

"I fell hard for someone who will never even look at me that way never mind return the feelings and its too much seeing them day in, day out. It hurts Derek more than breaking up with Charlotte did and I can't stay here and watch them be happy with someone else." I explain and he pulls me into a hug. "Now, I've already made Mark promise to look after Addie but I need you to as well. I know things are rocky between you three still but I really need you to look after both of them for me and you need to forgive them. You're happy with Meredith so let go of that anger and be their friend again."

"I promise, I'll look out for them and let go of the past." He says with a small smile.

"Oh, and don't fuck it up with that gorgeous woman in there. Don't let history repeat itself, make an effort and don't just wave her off when something comes up. Take the time to tell her yourself, don't hurt her like you hurt my sister." I tell him and he nods as I hail a taxi down and I can see a flocker of realisation in his eyes. "I need to go catch my flight and you need to go back inside before anyone notices your gone Derek." I add as I start to take his jacket off to give it back but he stops me.

"Keep it, you might need a bit of home comfort in L.A. y/n." He says as he fixes the corner and I give him a weak smile before kissing his cheek and slipping into the waiting taxi.

"Where are you going ma'am?" The driver asks me politely and I smile at him.

"The airport please." I answer and he nods as he pulls away just as Meredith comes running outside. Looking away from her I focus on keeping my tears at bay and exchange small talk with the driver until we arrive at the airport. Quickly paying him with a nice tip I walk into the airport with barely any time to spare and rush to board the plane. Good bye Seattle, hello L.A.
