Biana Vacker cared for her siblings (Fitz), unlike someone she knew.
And it made her mad when any one of her brothers (Only Fitz) practically walked into danger on the orders of the so-called 'Council'.
The Elven Council she would've followed consisted of Councilors Alina, Bronte, Clarette, Darek, Emery, Liora, Noland, Oralie, Ramira, Terik, Velia, and Zarina. Or Kenric instead of Alina. Kenric was much better.
She did not like Vespera, Gisela, Gethen, and Ruy added to the list. Now there were no more Bronte, Ramira, Liora, Clarette.
One of them had given her the scars. One of them was her... friend's mother. One of them severely injured her ex-girl best friend and her brother. One of them was why they were in this mess and one of them was a general unstable nuisance.
She did not like any of them.
Especially when the good councilors were all either dead or experimented on. Like Alvar and Fitz. Experiment Vanisher and Experiment Telepath. They were luckily successful. Marella, Linh and Tam? Not so much.
She knew more people were experimented on. And two of them were her brothers. She got lucky that Alvar was chosen instead of her.
She wished it was her sometimes.
The experiments had changed them, she could see it in Fitz clearly. She didn't know Alvar clearly enough. Fitz, an avid hater of Neverseen now followed them like a lost dog, and she didn't know what that spiteful Vespera had done to them. Alvar and Fitz also seemed to get along like nothing had happened between them. They also seemed to not know what the word "Neverseen" meant, despite Alvar being a part of it.
Don't understand?
Let her back up a bit then.
It all started a couple of years ago. Mainly when the Neverseen (Yes, she remembered, she was the one who always chose to, after all) took over the council. As humans tell it, everything went to trash.
There was chaos at first, which was to be expected when half of the council was missing and then known criminals had taken over.
Then, they attempted to capture her, but she got away.
Biana resented her.
But Fitz hadn't in gotten away. Neither had Linh, Marella, Tam, Dex, Aunt Luzia, or Maruca. Or Jensi, who wasn't her friend. Or Stina, who was one of her enemies. Or Valin, who she even barely knew.
And they paid heavily for it.
Those particular groups of people. Along with Councilor Alina, Noland, Clarette, Liora, Terik, and Velia.
Jensi, Councilor Clarette, Aunt Luzia, Councilor Liora, Tam, Grady Ruewen, Marella, Linh, Councilor Velie, and Valin had been declared unsuccessful. She thought they had died. The info has recently turned out to be false. Marella and Linh were the experiment Hydrokinetic and Pyrokinetic. If they were alive, there had to be hope.
But she got off topic.
They were experimented on, along with many others, or anyone who dared to oppose them. They had started with Sophie Foster's friends, for she was the poster girl of the rebels. The most powerful elf. They wanted more people to be like her.
She didn't know what the experiments had or what they did, not exactly. All she knew that it was dark.
Finally, it all stopped.
Bad matches faced less discrimination but there were practically no bad matches in Eternalia. They weren't allowed to enter it.
Multiple births got less discrimination and that was the only positive thing. And maybe getting rid of the ridiculous ban on Pyrokinetics, but she was sure that it was only because Vespera wanted Fintan back.
But Marella was nowhere to be found, so it was of no good use.
New levels were added in Foxfire. Regent levels for people who want to be Regents, Emissary levels for people whose minds could withstand violence, for the Emissaries of the old were nothing like the emissaries of the new. And then there were Mentor levels for people who want to be mentors. She chose to go to Mentor levels.
Fitz chose Emissary levels.
She went back to Black Swan.
A dark-barked Wanderling bearing bright blue flowers stood for Wylie in the Wanderling Woods.
There were two trees with black bark and silver-tipped leaves with edible silvery berries as Linh and Tam 'died'.
But turns out Linh is alive and it won't be far to assume that Tam was also alive. The same goes for Wylie and others.
Keefe went missing soon after. He wasn't with the Black Swan. She assumed he was with Gisela, after all, the "Councilors not marrying and having children rule" was discarded.
It was the very 'boss girl' of Linh to take over Atlantis with Marella. And yes, she knew what the term meant (Not really, she just heard Stina and Fitz using it. They now acted like best friends, which forced Biana to be nice).
But here she was, a Spy for the Black Swan. It made sense, after all. Linh, Tam, Marella, and Dex were Unsuccessful Experiments and would have never been allowed back in Eternalia. Fitz had forgotten all, and so had Alvar.
Alvar had killed Alden Vacker with Fitz. It was an order from the council. She did not watch or help. She drugged her mother and forced her to go to Mysterium. There, she found out about one of Black Swan's hideouts and explained it all.
The remaining collective of Blur, Mr. Forkle, and Tiergan were all aghast, to say the least.
They moved out of Everglen, and into Albeass, their new house in Eternalia.
Albeass felt cold. With its massive silver gates and fence, royal green bricks, and gold when the sun hit them at certain angles. A Castlesque feeling. It was even colder and baren than Everglen.
It was beautiful in a way a place should not be with such a history. They were living in the same place where Councilor Kenric had died. The Oblivimyre. Where the Everblaze started.
She was having her usual Curse-the-Councilor night routine until she heard a voice she had grown to despise even more. Lady Creepyhead, Lady Can't-think-without-a-thinking-cap, etc.
So anyways, as she heard her voice her blood began to boil as usual. But then her curiosity perked up. What was she doing so late at her house? So she Vanished and Eavesdropped.
At the end of Lady Faker's mini-tirade, she felt disgusted and angry at the same time. Who was she to tell her brother what to do?
After Veprenza had left, she went to talk her brother out of it as usual.
But it didn't work, of course. Nothing she wasn't used to. Fitz was always a workaholic and combined with his drive to please the Council after Alden Vacker turned out to be a traitor and Della Vacker had gone missing, the Vacker Scandal.
So she turned back to her usual curse-the-councilor routine, focusing more on the old woman who stole what was not hers.
If her father got even a hint of the words that were going through her mind, his Wanderling would have fallen over a long time ago.
She stopped in her tracks as she gazed out of the large glass window.
A dark brown tree with teal flowers and another dark brown tree with cobalt leaves stared at her, it's vibrancy not quite dim in the dark sky.
The Wanderlings had been moved to their property as a reminder, a remnant of what happened to those who disobeyed the oh-so-prestigious council. The so-called council whose prime goal was justice had killed her parents.
So she had chosen to become a spy for the Black Swan. She knew at the back of her mind that Fitz or Alvar might condemn her. But she knew she selected the right group.
She might die for it. Anything for her family.
