Silver helps (Y/n) into a nightgown and lays her on the bed.
The woman screams in pain and pants heavily.
Lindel walks in and to the side of the bed. He feels around her stomach and sighs.
"Echo," Elias whispers from the doorway.
"Elias, I need you to hold her hands. I will deliver them when the time comes."
"Can't she push now?" The groom asks.
"She isn't dilated enough. We can't risk pushing early."
Elias walks over quickly and moves hair off her forehead. "I'm so sorry." He whispers and kisses her head.As the hours go by, and her constant crying makes his heart clench, Elias couldn't take much more.
"Echo how much longer?"
The blonde takes a deep breath. "She can start pushing."
(Y/n) looks at her stomach and sees claws scratching.
Her eyes widen in horror.
"Darling I need you to push when your next contraction hits ok?"
The bride cries but nods in understanding.Doing as told (Y/n) gasps and screams as she pushes.
Elias groans quietly as she squeezes his hands tightly.
Lindel smiles and encourages her. "That's it. You can do this. You'll be just fine."
(Y/n) tries to take deep breaths in between pushes but the pain is excruciating.
The clawing is also distracting and painful.
"That baby is trying to get out. Just keep pushing darling." The blonde watches her stomach in silent horror, but does his best to hide it.Finally one baby is out.
"Perfect! It's a boy." Lindel hands the baby to Silver who cleans him up.
She wraps him in a blanket and puts the baby on his mother's chest.
(Y/n) smiles softly and holds him gently. "A boy. He looks so cute."
Elias smiles and pets his head softly.
(Y/n) hands him the baby and although reluctant at first the father smiles and holds his son close. The happy moment is interrupted by the mother's gasp.
Elias hands Silver the baby quickly and she backs away.
(Y/n) cries out and screams in pain.
Lindel nods and gets ready again. "Baby number two. We can do this. You're gonna be just fine."
His smile reassures her but her eyes widen.
His expression turns confused.
"What's wr-"
Before he can finish his questions the baby tears open (Y/n)'s stomach and slowly rises out.
(Y/n)'s head falls to the side and she goes limp.
Elias and Lindel watch in horror. The baby cries and reaches out to Elias.
Lindel hands the father a towel and the hafling takes it quickly.
Elias wraps the baby in the towel and holds it close. "A-A girl." He stutters and cleans her off.
Lindel panics but does his best to fix (Y/n).
Her heart isn't beating but that didn't stop him.
He uses magic to fix her but even though she was ok, albeit with new scars, her eyes remain closed.
Her heart also remains unmoving.Adam walks over slowly. "Is (n/n) ok?" He asks quietly.
"Adam," Elias walks over to the boy and tries blocking his view of his sister.
"Elias he needs to know," Lindel comments and stands up.
"What's wrong?" The boy asks.
"(Y/n) didn't make it." Elias responds and moves to the side.
Adam looks over at his sister and tears stream down his cheeks quickly. "She...she died?"Silver holds him close as he cries.
Echo takes the baby boy and rocks him gently. "I'm so sorry I couldn't save her." He looks away quickly and clenches his fists.
His anger takes over and he feels responsible for her death.
"It wasn't your fault. Thank you for delivering the twins."
Echo looks up at Elias quickly.
This is his second wife to die. And this one was sooner than the first.
As imagined the halfling isn't taking it well.
Silver takes the twins away to the nursery and lays them in the bassinets. The tall creature clenches his fists and punches the wall.
The hole left behind would have to be fixed later.
Adam sniffles and holds his sister's hand. "But what about the babies? They need a mommy."
Echo gently pets the boy's hair. "They will have to live without one. I'm so sorry buddy."
"Echo I..." Elias began but he couldn't finish his sentence. "This is all my fault." He manages.
"Don't do that to yourself. This wasn't your fault. We all knew the risks and now... nevermind."
"Now we pay the consequences? I have to lose my wife and my twins get to live."
"Elias stop. They will need you so you must be strong for them."The taller man looks away but he knew his friend was right.
"I will plan a service for her. We can lay her to rest in the Aerie."
Elias nods in agreement. "She would love that."
"I will be back in a few days. Don't move her until I come back."
"Understood. Thank you again." The mage whispers and sits on the edge of the bed.
Lindel sighs then leaves.
