Y/n didn't get much sleep that night. Her mind had been racing the entire night nonstop, because holy fuck, she seriously accomplished about fifty percent of her goals in what? The span of 24 hours?

To put it into perspective: Shiro, with his death being covered up by the Garrison, crash landed onto Earth in a Galra jet with a Galran prosthetic, teamed up with Lance McClain and two cadets she'd met in passing, one of them being Katie Holt, family member of the two MIA Kerberos crew, bumped into Keith-her-fucking-ex Kogane, flew in a giant blue robot cat that she'd only ever heard in bedtime stories, travelled galaxies away from Earth, met with the last two full-blooded Alteans, one of them being the princess, got promoted to the team 'Heart', found the White Lion, warmed up to Keith (sorta?), formed Voltron and scared off the Galra. Yeah, her head hurt.

But, of all the events that transpired, to the near-death experiences and claiming what her mother had promised her the day she was born, Keith was the one to have really surprised her yesterday.

When Y/n and the gang initially broke Shiro out of the biohazard tent and ran into Keith, the half-Altean had wanted to end it right then and there. Here he was, having flunked out of the Garrison and their relationship, and they happened to bump into one another when breaking out star-pilot Takashi Shirogane; what the hell were the odds?

Seeing that stupid, but frankly charming, mullet, piercing violet eyes that you'd need to squint at to really notice that they weren't grey was like a punch in the gut. The neurons in her brain had gone haywire, sending red alerts and panicking and decidedly wanting to abort immediately. But of course she had stood her ground, fuelling her indescribable anger with what she could only label as her fear. Admittedly not the best play on her part, but hey, Y/n hadn't expected to see her damn ex in a top secret Garrison facility.

Whatever. After White, things were definitely... eased, to say the least. With Y/n's remarkable humour-to-cope method, talking with one another was easy-peasy. That is to say they've got a lot to discuss; namely the dumbass getting the beating of a lifetime, but that would stay on hold till the impending threat of Galra had eased.

With bloodshot eyes, her mind running a marathon and limbs that weighed ten times their usual amount, a screech from overhead had Y/n flying to plug her ears.

"Everybody up!" Allura's voice boomed over the loudspeakers, Y/n jolting out of bed as a curse bubbled from her lips.

Her dad would kill her if he had known she got less than the recommended eight hours of sleep. That is to say, he'd probably also kill her for frolicking off into space on a whim; whatever, he'd probably understand. Right now, she had some Galra to steamroll.

Y/n scrambled for her sweater and bayard, stumbling into the hallway with an intensely sharp turn.

"Zarkon's attacking! The Castle's about to be destroyed!"

Twisting and turning through the Castleship's appalingly long hallways, the padding of fast approaching footsteps flanked the half-Altean, a panting Keith meeting her with an equally concerned expression. Ah, speak of the paladin causing her lack of sleep.

"Go, go, go!" the Princess pleaded. "We need Voltron now! Hurry! We can't survive much longer!"

Distress seeped into Y/n's skin, willing her legs to pick up the pace as she rounded the corner into the Bridge; stupid boys could wait. A cheesy and dramatic enactment of Allura losing her head was performed passionately by Coran, sobs escaping from his lips as he grovelled at his knees.

The Princess deadpanned. "It's over."

"If only Voltron had been formed," the ginger weeped, shooting up as the five gathered in front of the Alteans. "Oh! Time!"
