Aurora had been a part of the Royale Orphanage her entire life. Literally. When she was five months old, a young woman presumably her mother dumped her at the doorstep of the orphanage on a stormy night with a small letter stating her name, date of birth (13 April) and the name of her mother, Adhara Black, an odd name. And ever since then Aurora lived in this wonderful/terrible orphanage. The young girl had never been adopted but often dreamed of escaping the orphanage. She was undeniably pretty, much prettier than the girls at the orphanage with short light blonde hair and ocean blue eyes. Most of the children and adults at the orphanage hated her. Strange things happened when she was around. Glass would break on its own, books she would not touch would fall down, pink mist would surround her when she was extremely angry and so on. The women at the orphanage called her a devil's spawn and the older children would bother her in many ways by calling her names due to her dyslexia and ADHD though they were too scared to take it too far.
However recently Aurora was happier at the orphanage. There were two new children at the orphanage: a young boy around twelve, thirteen with extremely curly hair and dark skin. He introduced himself as Saffron. The second was a girl, around Aurora's age but slightly older. She was Kayla Knowles. Like Aurora she too had ADHD as well as dyslexia. Unlike the other children at the orphanage, neither Kayla nor Saffron hated her, and they got along very well.
It was the first time Aurora had friends and she loved spending time with the two. Kayla, it turned out had a father but the two did not have a good relationship. Kayla hated her father so much that she ran away only to end up at Royale Orphanage. However, she never complained and often admitted that she liked the orphanage more. She was funny with ginger hair and bright blue bell eyes and was an excellent singer and musician. Saffron on the other hand was very quiet. However, he once stood up for Aurora when one of the older boys tried to pick on her and that was all that took for Aurora to like him. The three stuck to each other all the time talking and laughing like siblings. To the young seven-year-old, they were like family.
Aurora sat on the swing in the park near the orphanage with Kayla. Though they were not allowed to leave the two rebellious children had snuck out. Aurora wanted to bring Saffron along, but Kayla intervened reminding her that he would probably not let them go. The park was empty, and it was only the two of them. Kayla pushed the swing while Aurora whooped and giggled, enjoying the feeling of the air rushing into her face. Suddenly they herd giggling. Kayla immediately stopped pushing the swing and whirled around. Aurora got off as well, looking at the on comers.
The on comers turned out to be two high school girls who probably went to the high school a few blocks away. They were wearing sleeveless red tops and incredibly short skirts and were giggling. Aurora however noticed that they walked with a slight limp. One had pale blonde hair while the other had dark hair. Both were undeniably pretty and were extremely slim. They stopped in their tracks looking at the two young girls. One of them, the blonde girl whom Aurora decided to call blondie raised her eyebrow, a smirk playing across her face. The second girl whom Aurora decided to name Gracie (just because she felt like it) inhaled as though she had just sniffed out her favorite food. Somewhere in Aurora's mind an alarm was ringing 'DANGER'. She ignored it.
"Well, well Terri. Look who we have here," the blonde girl said, still smirking. Gracie (whose name was actually Terri) just chuckled. Kayla didn't look as though she liked either Blondie or Gracie (sorry, Terri). She placed a protective hand on Aurora's shoulder and took a nervous step backwards. "We were just above to leave," she said, nervously. Blondie laughed. "Oh, you can't leave. We haven't even been introduced properly!" she exclaimed. Aurora felt a shiver go up her spine. "I'm Kayla. This is Aurora. We live in that orphanage there. If we don't leave, the teachers will come look for us," she said, hurriedly. Aurora could feel the nervousness and fear in her voice. Terrie smiled at them. Aurora couldn't believe how sharp her teeth were. "I'm Terri and this is Kelly. It's nice to meet you'll both," she said. Aurora glanced at her nails which were painted red and could be used as shredders. "We need to leave now," Kayla said, her voice coated with firmness but with fear filled within.
However, Kelly smiled coldly. "It's been too long since I've tasted demigod meat. I surely can't let two precious demigods like yourself just leave without killing you first, can I?" And with that their hair burst into flames. Aurora and Kayla both let out screams. The two ex-cheerleaders now had flaming hair, red eyes, white skin and... was that a donkey leg? Kelly seemed to have noticed her looking at the leg. "Not a word on the legs, demigod. It will only give you a more painful death." Kayla and Aurora both whimpered in fear. Suddenly she felt something materialize in her hands. She glanced to see two beautiful but deadly sharp daggers in her hands. She couldn't admire the daggers anymore because at that moment Terri lunged at her. With one swift motion, she swiped one of the daggers at the monster. With a loud wail, Terri the monster became Terri the monster dust.
Kelly however was still there, and the death of her monster friend only seemed to fuel her anger. She growled and raised her hands which were now claws and prepared to lunge. However, before she could do anything, an arrow was fired at her. Just before the arrow could hit her, she burst into flames and disappeared. Auora whirled around to see who fired the arrow. Her eyes widened when she realized it was Kayla. Kayla stood there in utter shock, a golden bow in her hand and a pack of quivers slung across her back. She hugged Kayla, not knowing what to do at the moment. That seemed to bring Kayla out of her shock. She hugged her back. "How did you do that?" she whispered. "I don't know. What was that?" Aurora whispered back. Kayla only shrugged in response. Suddenly she heard the running of feet. Both Kayla and Aurora broke apart and stood, Aurora holding out her daggers incase Kelly had decided to re-appear. It turned out to be Saffron.
When he saw Aurora with the daggers and Kayla with the bow and arrow, his jaw dropped slightly. However, his question put her completely off-guard. "You'll were attacked by a monster already?" he asked, his voice high pitched. Kayla narrowed her eyes at him "You knew about this? Are you a monster?" she asked, raising her bow slightly. Saffron shook his head frantically. "No, no I'm not, Kayla. I'm a satyr. It's my job to protect you'll. Thank the Gods you'll are safe," he said, hurriedly and frantically. "Protect us from what?" Aurora asked, trying not to feel shaken by the events. Saffron turned to her, eyes full of fear. "From the monsters. I can explain everything. But you'll need to trust me," he whispered. Aurora could feel the terror of them not believing him coursing through his veins. She could feel it that he wouldn't hurt her. She looked up at Kayla who seemed to be thinking along the same lines. They both nodded and Saffron heaved a sigh.
