It must have been around 1:00 because the sun was slightly past the center of the sky. Trey and I haven't talked since I yelled at him, but I was almost ready to break the silence when something caught my eye.
"What's that?"

"What?"

"There!" I point to a small grayish dot in the distance.
"I don't know."

"Well it might be a building!"
Or it might not be... Who knows. But it's the first thing that we've seen all day so I take off in a sprint, desperately trying to get a better look.

My legs were aching and my breath was shaky but I pushed on. My hair was falling out of its ponytail and sticking to the back of my neck.

I quickly looked back and Trey was no where to be seen. I know what my parents said about sticking together but I knew he couldn't be that far behind me. And if he was, he would eventually make it to the gray dot and we would just meet up there.

My vision was not the best but it was good enough to realize what the dot was.
A store.
I don't think I've ever run that fast in my entire life.

I finally made it to the entrance of the store and collapsed on the steps.

The store was called "Marty's" it was actually pretty big and also pretty abandoned.

After a couple of minutes of trying to slow my breathing and trying to stop my legs from falling off I find the strength to get up and walk to the doors.
Locked.
Of course.
Curse you Marty.

I look through the glass but it's hard to see anything because it's so bright outside.

I walk around the corner of the store and look for Trey.
And I see nothing.
Great, just great.

I turn back around and lean against a pole contemplating about how I'm going to get the door open.
Trey had our only gun. So I scan the parking lot for something. Anything.
And then I see it. An old rusty, metal pipe. I run over and grab it before retuning back to the doors.
"Okay, here goes nothing..."

I pull the pipe over my shoulder before swinging it as hard as I can at the door.

I rest one end of pipe on the ground and the other in my hand and lean over to inspect the door. There's one tiny chip in the glass but nothing major. I pull the pipe over my shoulder and swing it several more times at the door before anything really noticeable showed up.

I wiped the sweat from my forehead and sighed when I realized how long this was going to take.
