Today is the first day of classes. I have my photography class first. I check my phone to see the weather for today. It says it's supposed to be 70 degrees and raining. It is only 8 a.m., so I have time to get breakfast at the dining hall.
I walk over to my closet to pick out an outfit. I grab a Prince graphic t-shirt, rinse wash mom jeans, and black ankle boots. I grab my umbrella and quietly head out the door. Ella usually wakes up later than me, and although we have our own rooms, I still try to be considerate.
As I walk down the stairs, I put my earbuds in to listen to music. The university I go to has beautiful scenery that I love to enjoy, especially in the morning when there are not a lot of students around. I get to see the animals that haven't gotten disturbed by people yet. The squirrels run after each other or eat acorns they find on the ground. Some birds sing to each other while others fly over my head. It all brings me peace before the stresses of the day settle in.
I arrive at the dining hall and mute my music so I can greet the person at the front. As soon as I walk in I can smell the bacon. They have different options every day, but today they are serving bacon, eggs, and the kind of hashbrowns that you would get at McDonald's. Although the breakfast is intriguing, I decide to see what cereal they have. I see Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and immediately grab some and pour almond milk until I can see the little pieces of cereal starting to float.
After I get my food, I go to my normal seat which is kind of hidden. I love being by myself in the morning. I guess it's the introvert in me. I put all of my belongings and food down and head over to get some coffee. The coffee here sucks, so I have to add a lot of milk and cream. When I get back to my seat, I take my phone out and start watching a show while I eat. It's so peaceful this early in the morning.
Once I've finished my breakfast, I make my way back to my dorm. When I get inside, I take my cardigan off. "Good morning Jo," Ella says to me as she walks out of her room.
"Morning Ella," I say back.
"So, What did they have today?" Jo always asks what the dining hall is offering when I get back, so she can decide if she wants to go to the dining hall or make her own breakfast at our dorm. I told her exactly what they offered this morning.
"Good. I'm getting tired of the cereal that we have." She says.
"They do offer different cereal there too, Ella."
"Well, they never have a cereal that I like." Ella is a pretty picky eater.
"Whatever," I say, laughing at her. "I'll go to the store later, so text me what other cereal you want."
"Will do. Jo, do you have any plans for Friday night?"
"Nope. Do you want to do something?"
"Yes." She says to me with a suspicious smile on her face.
"What?"
"Can we go to a party?"
"You can go to a party."
"Jo, why don't you ever want to go? They're so much fun!"
"I'm just not a "get drunk around a bunch of strangers" kind of person." She gives me an irritated look. Ella loves to go out, party, and meet new people. That's how she met her boyfriend, Michael.
"Come on. You could meet somebody you would never have met if you didn't go."
"I don't exactly want to meet a guy at a party, Ella." She doesn't say anything back. She knows that if I don't want to do something, I won't do it. Last year, I was completely against going to a party, and she hasn't stopped trying to get me to go to one. But this year is different. I actually feel open to the idea. I'm not sure if I will actually go to one, but it's not forbidden in my mind anymore.
