In 1896, the revolution, led by Emilio Aguinaldo and supported by the Baybayin monarchy, the British, and the French, finally overthrew the Spanish authorities and took control of the government, with Emilio being elected as the first president. At the same time, the monarchs ofManila and Cebu merged into one Baybayin monarch. And although the new monarch, Felipe II, was ready to give up its position as the head of the country, Emilio let the monarch existed as long as he wants, as long as he was under his [the president's] authority. This was a generous response to the Baybayin support of the revolution. In response to that, the monarch agreed and kept ruling as a secondary, or backup, authority. This results in a dual-power nature of authority in the Philipines. Even so, one of the princes acted as one of the advisors to the president.
