But it didn't last long when in 1941, the Imperial Japanese invaded the Philippines. Once again the Baybayin royal family fled to Australia. But luckily for them, the Royal Guards were left behind to guard Manila. Despite their best efforts, they couldn't penetrate the Japanese forces. At the same time, most of the British and the French living in the islands were being called back to Europe to fight against the Germans. But just like the Baybayin royal family, most of their armies were left behind to defend the towns and cities from the Japanese. But still, during the occupation, the Japanese did many horrible war crimes, including the Bataan Death March. But despite that, the Baybayin Royal Guards, together with the guerilla forces and the French and the British, as well as the leftover Dutch from Indonesia, worked together to defend the remaining towns from the Japanese. While at the same time, they combined the melee power of the katana swords with modern weapons and tactics.
Then, in 1944, something unexpected had happened. The Americans, led by General Douglas MacArthur, were back in the Philippines to drive the Japanese out. MacArthur had fulfilled his promise to the Filipinos. Now, with the combining forces of the Australians, and the remaining British, French, and Dutch forces, they managed to defeat the Japanese in a decisive victory at the Battle of Leyte Gulf. At last, after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Japanese surrendered and ended its occupation of the Philippines.
