"YOU FUCKING WHAT?"
"YOU DIDN'T MEET HER?"
"WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?"
Calum's predictions came true.
"I cannot fucking believe this," Michael said, almost looking angry. "After all these months of moping around and whining about wanting to meet this
girl, the first time you see her you fucking run the opposite direction?" He ran his fingers through his blue hair. "You're fuckin' pathetic, you know that?"Ashton was pacing around the room, looking just like how Michael felt. "I can't believe you pussied out like that," he exclaimed. "You were almost fucking there but you didn't push through, what kind of-"
"Alright, alright, I think we can settle this!" Luke's voice rose above the string of profanities coming from Michael and Ashton. The blonde boy turned to Calum and stared at him seriously. "Basically, what we're saying, Cal: you're a fucking loser. Friendship over." With that he rose from his seat and made his way towards the door. Michael and Ashton followed.
"Wait, what the fuck, don't leave me!" Calum shouted after them. "You're suppose to be my fucking friends, you dicks!" He already felt miserable. Having his friends disappointed (to put it lightly) in him wasn't helping at all.
The three boys stopped, of course. They were just kidding about the "friendship over" thing. They were just trying to prove a point. And frankly, they were getting sick of trying to help Calum when he couldn't help himself. Luke rubbed his temples. "You know we want to help you, mate," he started with a tone of exasperation. "But you need to man the fuck up and help yourself." The other two nodded in agreement.
They all gathered around Calum to give him their not-so-friendly opinions on the matter. They suddenly felt bad for calling him all those things. He was already pretty upset about it.
Ashton, always the best one with words, started to smooth things up. "Look, we all know you like this girl. And even though you met her in the oddest way possible, and fell for her in the weirdest, creepiest-"
"Not helping," Calum deadpanned.
"Sorry. Okay, what I'm saying is, yeah, the situation is...unorthodox, but we still support you one hundred percent." The rest nodded in agreement. "But if you keep whining to us about how pretty she is and how much you wanna hold her fucking hand or some shit like that, it's up to you to...act on it." Suddenly Ashton looked unsure. He turned to Luke and Michael. "I feel like I'm not making any fucking sense."
"No, dude, you're doing great," Michael encouraged, giving him a thumbs up.
"I'm not good with advice," Luke admitted with a shrug.
They were all silent for a while until Calum spoke again. "I just wanna get super high right now and forget about this for a while."
"I'm in," they all said enthusiastically. And even though it was a Monday night, they really did get super high and wasted in Calum and Luke's apartment.
Thirty minutes later the doorbell rang. "Pizza's here!" Luke announced. Immediately Michael stood up and walked towards the front door, opened it, and gave the surprised delivery man a big hug.
"Uh, dude?" The pizza guy sounded almost scared.
Michael turned to Calum. "Does she give you the same feelings you get when the pizza guy arrives?"
Calum nodded in a drunk, sloppy way. "Definitely, bro."
Michael looked proud. "Then she's totally fucking worth it."
They ended up too wasted and too high to last until 1 am, so Ashton and Michael just kinda slept over, since Ashton was too wasted on their couch to drive. Michael was still up, harassing Luke, cuddling with him. Luke, always the giggly/happy drunk, just went with it, laughing at everything Michael said.
"Dude, we have...school tomorrow," Luke said between fits of small laughter.
"Oh, fuck, we do," Calum realized, but it was too late to start getting sober. There was a lull after that, since Michael fell asleep on the floor, and Luke was beginning to doze off. Calum was beginning to shut his eyes, too, but Luke spoke quietly in the darkness.
"We didn't mean all those things, you know that, right, Cal?" He didn't sound as drunk as he was minutes ago.
Calum nodded, but he realized Luke couldn't see him. "Yeah."
Luke yawned. "We just...want you to....be happy." He murmured something else, but he fell asleep halfway.
Despite everything, he felt a warm surge of affection for his best friends. They had given him a valuable lesson today: if she was worth it, then he should start proving it.
With that last thought, he fell asleep.
