Anna's POV
We left the cafe and I immediately hit Ella on the shoulder, causing her to flinch. It was kind of a reflex. I didn't mean to, but I was angry.
"Ouch. Why did you do that?" She rubbed her arm quickly, up and down.
"For inviting them to dinner. Why did you do that? They could be murderers! Or worse." I shivered as it began to drizzle. I put up my fuzzy hood.
"What could be worse?" She tried to change the subject.
"It doesn't matter. You can't just do that!" I snapped, as she didn't seem to get the point.
"They seemed sweet. Also I have so many ideas for the story." She started to take out her phone, in an attempt to show me her ideas she had jotted on her own.
"What? Did you do that when we were with them? They could have seen you taking notes on their every move! Not a good way to make friends."
"But they didn't. If we can hang out with them, we can write more. Now I know what you're thinking, and-"
"Ella, we can't write about them anymore. We could become close friends. Who knows."
"It's fine. Let's change the names and everything." I really didn't want to talk about this. I didn't want to talk about the story, or any of this. I also had a strange feeling. We started walking down the pavement and I had to get my thoughts out there.
"You know, what if they're not even together." It really seemed like they were just close.
"No. They're definitely together." She assured me.
"The taller one, the one who picked up his phone,"
"Yes, Dan?"
"Yea. He kept staring at me. Not like in a weird way, but like a cute way. I don't think he'd be like that if he were so into Phil."
"You wouldn't say that unless... Do you have a crush on Dan?" She stopped in front of the apartment complex.
"No. No. I just thought t-"
"You do!" She paused. "This makes me sad now." she stitched her eyebrows together, thinking hard. I could barely see her, even under the light post.
"First of all, no, I don't like Dan. Second of all, why would that make you sad?"
"Because he is with Phil. I sense these things, you know."
"Again, I'm putting so much trust in you."
"Ok, but I know how they look at each other. That's how I looked at Grace." She sighed.
"Was Grace an ex-girlfriend?" She'd never mentioned her before.
"No. My old cat. I loved her a lot. Made me happy when I was younger. My ex-girlfriends were bitches." She laughed. We got home and turned on all the lights and the heater. A light breeze of warm air filled the lounge, and then the kitchen. We did have a fireplace, but that was mostly for decoration, as we never trouble to get wood or even turn it on. I noticed Ella hung a sign on the mantle, today.
"Ella, that looks so trashy." I pointed to it.
"No it doesn't."
"It literally is made of cardboard." It was a little sign that she got from the swap meet, which she likes going to once a month. She came home with all sorts of things; lamps, books, antiques. This month provided our apartment with a framed newspaper with the headline "Hawaii Becomes the 50th State of America". She liked things from other countries to show guests how much she 'travels'. Also, she brought home a cardboard sign that is written "A Lesbian Zone" written across the top.
"I like it." She pretended to photograph the mantle with her fingers.
"I'm not sure. I think it implies that I am also a lesbian." I heated up the kettle and sat in the lounge area with her. The kitchen and lounge was really one big room, the sofa separating the two areas.
"No it doesn't. Please, let's keep it. When were 60, we can say 'Remember when we were 20 and you said that sign was ugly?' and we'll laugh about it."
"Fine. Whatever."
"You sound like my mum."
"I am mature enough to be your mum." I teased. She ran her finger across the calendar in the hall. We didn't really have doors, besides the bedroom and the bath, just big, twelve foot wide openings in the wall. The hall was basically part of the living/kitchen area we had.
"Tomorrow is the eighteenth?" She asked.
"I believe so." I checked the date on my mobile. I was correct. "Why?"
"I have an appointment." She checked her phone and sat at the bar, across from me, who was leaning over the sink, a cup of tea in my hands.
"An appointment for what?" I was curious.
"Just the doctor." This surprised me. "You've been to the doctors twice this month already. Is everything ok?"
"Actually only once. I told you I had one the second time so I wouldn't have to go buy shoes with you." She giggled.
"Ok but are you alright?"
"Yea, I'm fine. Monthly checkups are important, and this one is just... Just a bit early." She seemed zoned out. It was getting late. "Anyways, you'll have to cook for our guests, sorry."
"Really? I didn't even want them to come."
"I'll be back in time for the awkward eating part, but just make some pasta. You make great pasta."
"From the back of the sauce label." I couldn't cook my own recipe for my life.
"Anna, I forgot."
"It's ok. I understand." As a person who forgets 99% of plans, I wasn't too upset. She held her phone to her face, texting, and walked into her room. She closed the door with her foot, and I heard the bed spring squeak as she sat on it. Something was going on with her.
Anyways, I ignored it and turned off all the lights, going into the bathroom to wash off my makeup. Somehow, my eyeliner smudges onto my bottom eyelid. I don't know how, but it was very noticeable, it kills me that I probably looked like this all night. I pumped the soap in my hand and I swear I heard the door in my bedroom open. I ignored it, thinking paranoids about it. I rubbed the soap onto my face.
"Anna!" Ella jumped out from behind me, scaring me into getting the burning soap into my right eye.
"Fuck. Oww. What the hell?!" I washed my face quickly and tried to get it out of my eye, while Ella was yelling "sorry, sorry, sorry." Every few seconds.
"Did I scare you?"
"What do you think?" I looked at my red eye in the mirror.
"I'm sorry. But the first chapter, it already has 200 reads! That's a lot of people!"
"Oh my god, really?" I looked at her phone. Yes, over 200 people had read our story about Dan and Phil. The comments were really positive and people wanted to know when the next chapter would come out.
"We have to write more." She suggested. I was on the fence about it, as these people had come into our lives. But lots of people liked it. What was the harm anyways.
Hi! Little update, so if you like this story, please favourite it and share and all that jazz. It means the actual world to me.
