"My condolences..."
"I'm so sorry for your loss..."
"Our deepest condolences..."
She kept hearing them over and over again. With different variations, but nothing's making sense. Her mind can't fully grasp this whole thing.
He died. His father's dead. He left her with the company. Momo was in charge, she's the new CEO of their company.
It's been a week since the news broke out. His father was rushed into the nearest hospital when he said to one of the servants his chest hurts. They rushed him in, the medical staffs told them he had a massive coronary thrombosis. He died of heart failure before he could arrive at the hospital.
She sighed. It's been a week after they had the burial, but the fake sentiments never stopped coming. Vultures were coming from left to right. It seemed senseless to think that Momo could even have time to grieve.
She excused herself after the short meeting ended. She just nodded and accepted the fake sympathy and exited the conference room. It was bad enough a lot of shareholders are taking advantage of what happened and are planning to take Momo's role in the company.
"Cancel all my plans for the day. I'm taking a day off." She informed Jeonghwa. She ignored her cup of coffee when her secretary approached her.
She made her way to her office, loosening her tie and threw her blazer on the couch. She needed a break from the hell the board of directors were giving her.
Now what? She has nothing to do. No hobbies besides work. No friends she can go to whatsoever. Her routine was always eat, work, sleep, and repeat. It had always been that for years.
She was about to stand up, when her phone rang. It showed a familiar ID, it made her smile. She took a seat and answered the call.
"Momo-ring~" Sana begins, Momo was pretty sure her best friend was smiling. She missed seeing it. To be frank, there's not a single thing she doesn't miss about Sana. "I know things aren't going well... Uhm especially after what happened to your uhm family... but it's been weeks since I last talked to you."
"I know," She lifted the picture frame that was placed over her desk. It was a picture when they were teens, they were still in high school. Both of them were grinning their ass out, having those cute matching shirts they just bought. It was so simple back then, the memories made Momo smile. "Why did you call anyway? I know something's up whenever you call."
Sana was already sorry when she wasn't there because of her filming schedule. She left Momo alone when Momo was arranging the funeral and let Momo cry by herself as she watched her father's coffin get lowered. "I could always call another time, this probably isn't a good time to tell you. Especially when-"
"No it's not Sana." Momo hated how she's been treated lately. Sana called so that means, it's something important. It has to be.
"...I'm getting married. Jihyo finally proposed!" Sana couldn't hide the excitement in her voice. She sounded so happy. Momo smiled, Sana deserved so much. Between the two of them, she was glad Sana's finally getting the happy life she deserves. At least one of them is finally getting the ending they both deserve.
"Congratulations! Oh my god Sana. I always knew you two would end up together! Nayeon and I-" She closed her mouth when she finally realized what she said. Her name sounded foreign and somewhat familiar.
They knew the mood changed. It's been 2 years-- no almost 3, but she has always been a touchy subject. It always had, always will. Sana knew enough to steer away any chance to mention of Nayeon's name to Momo.
