She told me put my heart in a bag and nobody gets hurt. Now I'm running from her love, I'm not fast so I'm making it worse.

Lance was so in love. You could see it everytime he looked into her eyes. A sparkle that could blind you from miles away. She had him absolutely wrapped around her slim and perfectly polished finger. He would throw himself over a puddle just so she didn't have to ruin her shoes. His heart exploded anytime she even looked his way and even though they had been dating for about a year she still kept a lot of herself and her life private from him. He knew she was secretive and he knew that she wasn't perfect but he only saw her with rose colored eyes. He fell hard and fast. Giving her everything. Putting his heart not on his sleeve but on a silver platter with a knife hoping and trusting she wouldn't rip it apart. He told her he loved her fast, he asked her to move in fast, he took her to meet his family fast. He's a driver, ofcourse he lives his life in the fast lane but it was dangerous giving so much of himself to someone who clearly didn't give him the same. He sadly knew the right thing was to leave and break up. Give himself the chance to be with someone who loved and supported him as much as he did to her but he couldn't seem to let her go just yet. Everyone around him told him to leave. He knew they were right. She had even given him chances, hints to the fact she could never be what he wanted. Never be who he thought she was but he still held hope inside that she could change, that she would change for him but he knew he was only fooling himself.
It took him walking in on her with someone else for him to leave. He had to see her with someone else to break the spell. Her long legs tangled with someone else on the same couch they had made out on hundreds of times. He can't say he was surprised but he hoped it wasn't true. Thousands of thoughts went through his head all at once. Maybe it was a mistake, maybe she fell, maybe he had gotten bit by a snake and she had to suck the venom out, maybe he forced her, maybe he could forgive her. It was only once and he was sure it wouldn't happen again. He told her he was sorry for interrupting and turned around and left.
It took him a week or so to realize that he was wrong. It was not a mistake but a choice she had made consciously. That she just couldn't change and he deserved better. He downed his glass of expensive whiskey and went to bed to think.

Last time I saw you it ended in a blur. I woke up in a hearse.

A month passed. 2 and then before you know it it was half a year gone. He wished he could lie and say he didn't think about her but he couldn't. He still thought about her all the time. He might even say he was still in love. But Lance hasn't seen her since he dropped her stuff off at her place and found a box of his own belongings in a box outside her door. An Aston Martin hoodie, silver ring, beanie hat, his popcorn maker and a couple assorted shirts made up the main contents of the box. He had wondered where his popcorn maker went and was glad it was back in his possession. It made him think about all the movie nights where she would fall asleep next to him on the couch after she would insist on picking the movie. Some steamy rom com with the same actor from the past 3 other movies she had made them watch recently. She would get these obsessions with a certain actor and watch their whole discography and then move onto the next. He was kinda like one of her actors. Used until she went though his whole discography and then pushed aside to make way for a new one. At the bottom of the box we're a couple Polaroid pictures of them together in different places and a few love notes he wrote to her. He was surprised she had kept them. Looking at them his heart fluttered. He felt like he did when he first fell for her. Sadness took him over and he stood there thinking about how she would never be his again and she would never love him like he did her. She had already moved on and she barely batted an eyelash at him anymore. He would still give her the world if she asked and she wouldn't even hold the door open for the elevator if she saw him down the hallway right about to get on. She wouldn't even give him 25 cents if he was short for a cup of coffee yet he would sell his boat and quit driving if she had asked him too. Right as he was about to turn to leave with his stuff the door opened. He looked up and there she was. The sun surrounded her like she was an angel. Her eyes were wide in shock. She hadn't expected to see him and what timing it was that he came to get his stuff when she was actually home. She gave him a crooked smile and excused herself as she passed him to enter the stairwell. To him it looked as if an angel had floated by him. She was as beautiful as the day he met her but this time she barely even smiled. Not like she gave him much more when they first met but this time it was worse. Knowing he could never go back and have her again.
He picked up the box, made his own way downstairs and opened the back door of his AM tossing the box in the back seat. As he climbed in the car he sighed. He had given her everything and more and now he was left with nothing. He had shown her nothing but love and affection and she returned it with ice. Why had he stayed for so long. Maybe it's because he held onto the handful of times she showed him something back. Always hoping it would change. It never did.
