As Lancelot stared over the large kingdom he once hurt, he sighed. After Sonic took the throne and disappeared every so-often to do god knows what, he became the second in command. Not his fellow knights of the round table, Gawain and Percival, him. Even that godforsaken Lamarok whom Sonic seemed to develop a liking for. Him. Lancelot slowly grabbed the sides of his helmet and pulled up, revealing his black and red quills to the world he looked over.
"Wow, I've never seen you this glum before." He flinched, turning to the voice in question. Sonic seemed to have reappeared. "My Lord," he bowed his head. "Enough of that, dude!" Sonic waved him off, huffing. "Call me Sonic!"
"Apologies, Lord Sonic." Lancelot corrected himself swiftly, lifting his eyes up to his kings face. "Psch, you guys are always so...y'know, stiff! Loosen up! Whaddya say we go have another sword fight in the fields??" Sonic suggested, wrapping his arm around Lancelot's arms. "...Not at this moment, Lord Sonic." He frowned and looked away.
Sonic frowned. Normally his new second in command would be all over a rematch, or combat in general, but suddenly it's changed? "What's wrong?" He asked. Lancelot grabbed his helmet in attempt to put it back on, but Sonic grabbed his hand. "Hey, don't think you can hide that look from me."
They stared at each other for a moment, a comforting silence breezing by. Then Lancelot spoke. "Today is the day I lost someone very important to me." He muttered. Sonic felt awful; he let his knight go and crossed his arms. "I'm sorry, Lance."
"Do not be, it was a long time ago." Sonic grabbed his helmet and tossed it onto the ground. "Tell me about them."
"Excuse me?" Lancelots ears perked up in surprise. "Tell me about your special person! I don't mind at all. Maybe it'll help you feel better." He suggested with a smile. Lancelot avoided his gaze. "It's not appropriate, my lord.."
"I'm the king, aren't I? I decide what's appropriate." He took his gloved hand in his own, squeezing it reassuringly. "Plus, I wanna hear what they were like."
Lancelot sighed, giving into his demands. "...Her name was Guenevire." Sonic smiled. "That's a beautiful name!"
"I know," he smiled fondly. "She was the princess of the kingdom Arkeus before it was destroyed. I was her knight before King Arthur."
"Really? Wow," Sonic beamed proudly. "Wait..before it was destroyed? I've never even seen it on a map before."
"Because those who destroyed it didn't want it to stand." He looked away despondently. "Arthur sent his men and took it over from the inside. They destroyed it. They killed her in cold blood."
Sonics eyes were wide in surprise, and horror. Arthur was awful, more awful than he ever thought. He was determined to be better. "Why'd you join him if he—"
"He promised to keep her alive if I did...but he betrayed me. And then the curse with Lady Merlina began. We were endowed to him as we are endowed to you, Sonic." He spoke this truth bitterly, ears pinned back to his head. Sonic reached out to touch him, but Lancelot shrunk away. "Lance I'm sorry...how old was she?"
"She was at the age of 13 when she passed." Sonic almost burst out in anger; not only did Arthur destroy a kingdom, but he was content with killing a child. A little girl...it was awful. It was beyond awful. Not even Eggman would do something so heinous.
"Sha— Lance.." This time, Lancelot accepted Sonic's touch. "I'm sorry to burden you with my troubles, my king.." he muttered. "That's not something you need to be sorry about buddy." Sonic pulled his hand back.
"In Arkeus...what did you do?" Lancelot's ears perked up once again. "I'm curious, that's all," Sonic assured, raising his hands in the air. "If you don't wanna tell me it's fine-"
"No, I will." Lancelot interrupted, sighing once again. Though he smiled, ever so slightly. "It began long ago...not a century, but long enough." He gestured to the field, and in his vision stood a small castle, in an even smaller town. The castle seemed to have walls made of the strongest materials available. Impenetrable. Inside, a younger Lancelot walked with an old man, who wore a robe of white cloth...
