Poem #8, A Smile

Deceptive or receptive

a gift, blessing, or curse

so much it hides yet still reveals

more than any words

Lies and truth both find a home

though together seldom show

on surface soft and unassuming

A smile masters the art of fooling

can't take it back for the price is free

but the cost it often brings is pricey

the most beautiful adornment ever worn

yet known to be sly when hearts are torn

takes every ounce of strength sometimes

though less muscles than to cry

and logic fails when the sweetest of them all

is smiled by the one who took the fall

Fake, strained, or genuine

A smile lets one breathe again
