Poem #10, Midnight

The moon glowed bright that evening

as she walked home from her job

listening to music she saw no danger

nor heard the steps echoing the night

but deep in the dark a soul crept

silent as the wind whisking by

it was midnight when that shadow reached

to cut her cries from sound

it was midnight when that stranger dealt

with a problem non-existent

it was midnight when her long blond hair

swished down the arm of her captor

it was midnight when the world

lost another dreamer

The dirt clung to his shoes

as he trekked through the woods

carrying a pain he'd never felt before

guilt locked away in silence

as he approached the sea she loved

and returned her to her dreams

It was midnight when the waves harmonized

claiming a soul long yearned for

it was midnight when her figure fell

from the arms of her beholder

it was midnight when her heart stopped beating

and her lips they breathed their last

it was midnight when a jewel was lost

to the turquoise wasteland

The feeling of her fingers slipping

brought him to his knees

and for one second he was overcome

and felt a flash of sanity

as her body met the foam

and became one with the night

It was midnight when he raised the bottle

to drown out the sound of her scream

It was midnight when there was one last shot

to erase the haunting memory

It was midnight when he felt his mind

slipping away from him

It was midnight when the moon rose high

over his fading shadow dim

The sky wept tears over the loss of an angel

and thunder cracked the clouds in grief

as the ocean caressed the solemn hearts

with a song she loved so much at peace

and he lay six feet under pain and misery

with no hearts to mourn his passing

It was midnight...on her birthday

The moment meant to be sixteen
