Taehyung scanned the laptop screen once more, scanning each word carefully, as if it might make the notes read so many times change meaning. Eventually, though, he raised his hand and slide his long fingers into his dark curls, combing them with frustration, a loud whir of dissatisfaction escaping his throat. He pushed himself off his desk and closed his business laptop angrily.
"This is fucked up!" He called, his voice clearly raised. "According to the file, this guy is clean as a whistle. He doesn't even have a fucking parking ticket, although we know he was caught with drugs a few months ago."
"Eh, it's true," Hoseok said, equally resigned.
Taehyung looked at his partner instinctively. Jung was sitting at one of the desks that was about a meter from him. His eyesight also scanned carefully what was currently on the computer screen, but after a while the man turned his face towards him. It was enough for their eyes to meet, and Kim knew exactly what he was going to hear.
"I didn't find anything either," Jung admitted, and Taehyung cursed under his breath. "The testimonies of the neighbors do us nothing," the older one continued. "Everyone agrees that it was a quiet and peaceful girl. She did not make any problems. She wasn't partying. The neighbors even adored her. She didn't bring men in, or at least no one had seen anything like it. They only saw her friend and younger sister or her parents. Apparently, the only man who visited her there was her fiancé, who has been in the unit for almost a year and a half. There is no connection with Lin. Nobody saw him there "
"Fuck," Kim cursed.
Almost instinctively, he took the testimonies of the victim's associates in his hands and looked again at what he had noted down, although he knew well that he would find nothing there either. Nobody but the victim's friend said a bad word to any of the Lin brothers. When they asked other women about harassment or inappropriate remarks, they all kept their mouths shut, although Taehyung was not stupid and knew well when people were not telling him the truth. He guessed that not only Yihyun had fallen victim to similar harassment, but other workers probably feared that if they said something about it, they would lose their jobs. He knew they were probably right, but that only frustrated him even more.
"None of the employees confirmed Lin's inappropriate behavior. Neither to the victim nor to the other workers. Yihyun didn't report it anywhere, so we don't even have a starting point..." he said more to himself than to his friends, then he put down his notes and began to quickly go through the papers that were lying on the desk in front of him, trying to find one of the documents previously brought by pathologist. When he found it, he lifted it up again and quickly scanned it with dark eyes. "These documents show that some fibers were found on Yihyun's body... Maybe we should search his office or his car? Maybe it's fibers from his clothes or the upholstery of his car... I don't know. The goddamn carpet in the living room..." he said, looking at Min. "Let's apply for a warrant..."
"No judge will give us a warrant, Tae. There is no basis for this. Apart from the fact that they worked in one building, they have nothing in common."
"There has to be a way," Kim protested. "You haven't seen him, Yoongi. He is convinced of his impunity. He thinks he's smart, and we won't find anything on him, but we have to find something. I know it's him."
