When Byung opened his heavy eyelids again, he had no idea where he was or what had actually happened. He blinked rapidly, trying to orient himself and recall recent events. He was dizzy. His temples throbbed and he felt strangely sick. When he realized that these were probably side effects caused by the fact that he had inhaled the chloroform, all his memories came flooding back to him in an instant. He remembered the playground. Beomi climbing the monkey bars. The boy's smile when he told him he had dogs in the van...

But what happened next?

He furrowed his eyebrows together, trying hard to remember what happened next...

And suddenly he remembered.

Someone attacked him...

He lifted and lowered his eyelids a few times, trying to adjust his eyes to the darkness he was in, but it didn't help much. The room was too dark for his sense of sight to register anything. In addition, there was an unbroken silence around, as if he was alone here. Only a slightly bland, rather unpleasant smell crept into his nostrils. It was familiar enough, but he couldn't make out what it was. The temperature in the room was cold, much lower than it would have been on a spring afternoon, which meant it had probably been lowered on purpose. He blinked a few more times, hoping to finally see something, but his eyesight was too weak to see where he was. He lifted his hands to his throbbing temples, and it wasn't until he did that, that he realized his body was upside down. So he jerked, trying to move his legs, but his limbs seemed to be bound. In addition, someone had bound them so tightly that he was unable to free himself. So he stretched out his hands to feel what was binding his ankles, when suddenly a loud whine crept into his ears, causing him to literally freeze, scared. At first, he had no idea what that sound was. It took him a moment to remember that he'd heard something similar before — that fucking bird.

He couldn't explain it, but he was sure it was the same bird that had attacked him outside the playground. He couldn't see it in the darkness, but he heard its approaching screech, the sound of strong wings flapping close to his ear, and then the movement of the air as the animal passed close to him.

Way too close.

Wanting to protect himself from the attack, he began to move nervously from side to side, as if he hoped that this would somehow release the bindings restraining his feet and he could escape from the winged attacker. As he did so, he simultaneously tried to hide his head in his hands, protecting his face from the sharp beak and claws of the crow that still seemed to fly right next to him.

"Ah! Ah!" He cried loudly as the bird once again flew so close that its wings brushed against the palms of his hands behind which he hid his face.

Trying to scare it away, he started waving his hands blindly. He only managed to swing a few times when another unexpected sound crept into his ears. This time he immediately recognized what it was — laugh.
