Never in my life did I think I would be here, in this position, especially with him.
Let me rewind a bit, all the way back to the beginning.
My relationship between my mother was never as close as it should be. I, Lucy Bridges wasn't even allowed to have friends, until that one boy came along. His name was Roger and we had always been very close as our mothers were too, he would teach me the drums sometimes, and we were inseparable. That was until secondary school, 1959, where he confessed his feelings for me, but I turned him down, hoping our relationship would stay stable.
It didn't.
About two weeks later he moved away to the whole other side of England, in London, and I never saw him or his mother ever again. I was devastated about it for months, maybe even years. It sure felt like it. Things just went downhill from there, including my grades. Being alone all the time, being bullied at school, being the least favourite child out of two, me and my sister Mia.
"Why can't you be like your sister?"
I heard that sentence from my mother nearly every day of my life. At least I had my father. I wrote to Roger constantly though, I asked about him and I did as much as I could to just see him for the first time... ever.
My whole life was a struggle without Roger, I didn't even know if he was still alive.
Now we fast forward to 1973.
