Choosing Ceremony

Katniss POV
On the train, I think about what I'll choose. I do not want to be a Candor smart mouth. I do not want to be a Nose either. (Nose means Erudite. Their noses are always in a book.) So, I'll choose home. Finnick and Peeta are choosing Dauntless. They told me. I haven't talked to Gale. I think he's leaving me. Once we get to the Hub, we hop off. We go to the Choosing room. We stand in a row in front. Tris walks to the stand. "As you know, today you will choose. Good luck to all!" I doze off until she calls Gale up to the table. Peeta and Finnick are Dauntless. Gale walks up, and slits his palm with the knife. He hesitates for a minute he turns towards the bowl. His blood falls into the.... Amity bowl! What the heck! "Katniss Everdeen." I walk up to the bowl. I may be Candor. I may be Erudite. But I know. I know where I belong. Dauntless. I tilt my hand, and my blood sizzles on the hot coal. I am Dauntless.

Gale's POV
I don't know why. Why did I choose Amity! I belong in Dauntless. Not in Amity. After everyone is done we leave. What is Amity initiation like? I guess they pick fruit.

Peeta's POV
Gale left her. He left her. That's all that's going through my mind on the train ride to the compound. I may actually have a chance with Katniss. Once we are at the compound, we begin to jump. I've done it so much, it's easy for me. But someone must not realize what faction they just chose. "What!? We have to jump? What if we don't?" Another boy replies. "What do you think? You'll become factionless. Good luck, Adam." I jump first. Then Katniss and Finnick. We walk to the edge of the building. Four buildings connect to form a square in the middle. Max stands at the edge. "Welcome to Dauntless. If you want to join, this is the way in. So who's first?" People must not think I'm Dauntless. "Me." Max hops down, and I climb up. I lean forward, and let the wind push me. Katniss and Finnick jump in right after I do. A man reaches into the net and pulls us out. "What's your name?" "I'm Peeta. This is Katniss and Finnick." We walk over to the stairs and wait. After three minutes the man and a woman walk over. "I'm Four and this is Tris. We will be your instructors. The first stage of initiation is physical. The second is mental." Tris starts to speak. "Since there are just ten of you, initiation will only last one week. Two of you will be cut after stage 1, but you can drop out." They take us to a room. "This is where you will sleep. If you like this, wait until you see the bathroom. You have the rest of the day to go buy Dauntless clothes. All old clothes will be tossed into the fire pit to be burned. The Dauntless leaders have given you all 500 points. They are just like money. Have fun!" I go to Katniss who is on her bed. "You okay?" "Yeah, I'm just sad because Gale left me." I slide my arms around her. I kiss her cheek gently and leave.
