Cassandra was training. She trained using her crossbow, her sword, you name it. She took a quick break when (Y/N) approached her.
"Cass! Hi! I was wondering whether you could mayybee I don't know, teach me how to fight?"
Cassandra almost spat out her drink.
"You want to fight?"
"Well, everyone is always out protecting Corona, and I want to be of help. You for example are such a great fighter and I would like to learn to be just like you."
"Flattery will get you nowhere. But I guess I could teach you... If you can keep up that is."
Cassandra smiled at her and handed her a wooden sword.
Thus the lesson began.
They fought for a while and while (Y/N) obviously wasn't half as good as Cass, she was learning quickly.
"You have good reflexes kid." Cassandra said, dodging a hit.
"But you have to work on your aim!" and then Cass landed a blow.
Both of them sat down to drink a few sips. It was quite obvious that you were mad at yourself for not mastering the sword early.
"You know, it took me a while to master the sword too. It's okay if it takes you sometime."
"No, that's not it. All of you are such good fighters and I'm always on the side. It's like I can't do anything!" (Y/N) made grand gestures while blabbering on.
"Rapunzel has this god knows how long hair, which somehow doesn't slow her down - I mean come on, that hair has to weigh a ton - and she also has magical powers to save the day! And I'm sorry cause I am definitely rambling now-"
"Hey, hey it's okay." Cassandra shifted a bit closer, putting a hand on your shoulder.
"Raps is great, we all know, but that doesn't mean you aren't great either. And it's nice if you want to help, everyone will appreciate it. But you can't forget that Rapunzel is older than you. You still have time." She sighed, eyes glossing over as if she was reliving a memory.
"You sound like you're speaking from experience... Everything okay Cass?"
"I'm fine, I'm fine, it's just, I think everyone feels a little overshadowed by Rapunzel sometimes. I've been trying so hard to get respect for my skills, but everyone still sees me as Rapunzel's lady-in-waiting. And anytime I'm actually acknowledged, Rapunzel steals the spotlight and I'm overshadowed again."
"Have you talked to her about this?"
Her pale, olive green eyes widened and she looked at you in bewilderment.
"God no. Rapunzel is my friend. She has always been nice to me even when I treated her badly. I can't blame her for anything!"
"I'm not saying you have to blame her, but maybe open up a bit? Communication is key to a good relationship. I think she'll understand."
"Thanks, but, I think I can handle it."
"I never doubted it Cassandra. You're strong and capable and soon everyone will see that."
Both of them stayed silent for a short while
"I hope so."
"I know so Cassandra. Some people admire you already.", you said, thinking of the look Varian gave her anytime she was near.
"People will definitely see you like that someday soon. And hey, isn't the Challenge of the Brave coming up soon?"
"Right."
"Are you going to participate?"
"I don't know..."
"It would be a great chance to show off your skills! You could definitely win if you put your mind to it."
She smiled and looked into the distance.
"I'll think about it. Good talk. Now catch!"

They kept on fighting for a looooong time.Cass did think about the Challenge of the Brave. After a bit of consideration, she decided she wanted to participate and she started to train weeks in advance.
She was getting stronger by the day, and she teached (Y/N) a few of her tricks. The two of them were becoming increasingly good at fighting and Cassandra was a proud teacher.
They had a lot of fun times even outside training and they grew fond of one another in the few weeks they spent together.
Well, I mean, they did spent almost every second of each day together so no wonder.
Rapunzel watched them with stars in her eyes. She was so happy that her best friend and her little sister were getting along so well!
...Although she didn't know what it was they snuck away to do, she knew they had a great time, judging by the smiles and laughter that lit up the room whenever the two of them came back. She was content.
