"Haan Mata ji, I am fine with tomorrow. The family is coming today in the evening to see Ishika beti....."
That's all I was able to hear, dadi glared at me so I returned to my room.
I don't know whether I'll get married to someone good or not.
Dadi is too keen on getting me married, as far as I know her she will really not care about how the man will be. For her, the only criterion is a family matching her status.
I have gotten rejected by 5 families till now. The reason being the same old. She's too dark, she has a short height.
Moreover 6th family is coming this evening to see me. I am already getting negative vibes. These things are already making me sad.

Mom gave me the tray of snacks to carry to the living room.Chatters of the guest are audible from the kitchen.
I can feel my heart beating faster.
My hands are literally shaking, carrying the tray to the living area.
I sighed. My senses are screaming, it's not going to end with decent talks.
Anyways I ignored the pessimistic thoughts. It's nothing new for me.
I served the cups to everyone present in the living room. After keeping the tray on the table, I move towards Ria and stand beside her.
Eight people came along with the respected groom to see me.
My eyes welling up seeing them giving me offending expressions.
A man who seems to be the groom's father gets up from his place.
He joins his hand in front of dadi respectfully, " Jayanti Ji we respect you a lot, but we can't accept this proposal." With this, their family gets up.
Grooms mom touches dadi's feet, "Aunty Ji I would be the happiest if a relation could be formed between our families.
But your granddaughter is not a good match for my son. First of all, she is dark, and second, she is short in height. Sorry." With that she leaves, rest of the family following her.
I quickly wipe my tears, I don't want anyone to notice them.
Knowing it was going to happen, doesn't make it hurt less.
People have set quite high standards of beauty and I don't fulfill them.
I quickly look down noticing dadi coming towards me, trying to blink my tears away.
"Didn't I always tell you to do yoga and exercise, didn't Revathi(Ishika's mother) tell you to put things on your face? You have always been a thankless kid, never listened to us."
A sob erupts my mouth, dadi is clutching my face too tightly.
